Commuter rail gets support

Full story: Las Cruces Sun-News

There appears to be growing public support for creating commuter rail service, much like northern New Mexico's Rail Runner, from Las Cruces to El Paso.

What happens when someone gets off the train at one end or the other? Is the public transportation of these two cities sufficient to make rail commuting desirable?

Two things about this idea troubles me as a resident of L.C. 1) The cost of the rail service. The State of N.M. is in a budget deficit because of the construction ofthe Railrunner. 2) Las Cruces continually has no plans to construct a belt loop around the city or construct new major throughfare to move traffic around the city. The new Sonaoma Ranch road is over crowded because of the Lohman/Telshor construction. If Congreeman Teague wants to help our city, direct some of the stimulus money for major instructure in and around the city.

Bingo! Our roads are insufficient and over-crowded. This city council is out-of-control with their wild projects and liberal attitudes. Let's focus on making Las Cruces better, not their personal agendas.(Vote Sharon Thomas out, District 6!) So when you get to El Paso, what happens... do you rent a car to get around? Or, is this like a ride at the fair where you just turn around and come home. Talk about fiddling while Rome burns...
