13-Year-Olds Spend Time in Jail for Arguing at School
Two 13-year-old girls spent four nights behind bars for yelling and cursing at each other in the hallways of their middle school.

They should have spent that time in jail to think. This was a good move. I hope now the girls are getting along and learn from their mistake. A lot of children who begin to go in the wrong direction needs a time of lockup.

If only the middle school where I am currently employed would take this type of action. The teachers in the lunchroom today were talking about Greenville as a possible model system. I now see why that might be the case.

Good for them! Acting like two idiots with no home training. The bleeding hearts need to stay out of this...the school has made an example out of these girls, and I bet other students will think more carefully before they do the same stupid stuff.

This may have been a little too harsh of a punishment but at least the girls won't be yelling and screaming and cussing each other in school anytime soon. Or maybe this is a step in the right direction and the little tykes will be scared straight after their incarceration. Naaaa.... Some people, you just can't reach.

why cant we all just get along?

Wow. i have many times wished for the opportunity to have my child locked up for acting out, just to scare them straight...but 4 days is just too much. The lesson has been distorted by the punishment. Now it will be mucked up with adults arguing civil rights violations, forgetting what the girls did to spark the action to begin with.

that is a crying shame. If they let parents raise their children and not be afraid to discipline them when they do something wrong it will stop a lot of this type of behavior. But Americas system is so screwed up that it rewards bad behavior from children. Civil rights violation or not they should have been arrested maybe next time they will think about it.

Boo-hoo, an overnight(several) days in the pokie.... well now isn't that what would/could happen to you or I (adults) when we show out? If they want to be adult "with the mouth" early on, then treat them and dispense the penalties accordingly! I have "0" sympathy for the little darlins. Bail bondsmen, your market is about to expand!

13 year old children these days aren't what they used to be. They fully believe and behave as if they were 25 - they also expect to be treated as such. I have no problem with the girls being arrested. Maybe it will be the beginning of learning a lesson or two. And goodness knows the school will be a little more safe for the rest of the children. But I'm confused - or maybe ignorant. What has a state holiday got to do with any of this - why should it matter that they were arrested on Thursday - the day before Confederate Memorial Day? Are we giving free rides to those who break laws if it happens to fall on the eve of a state holiday? The date shouldn't matter. And as far as civil rights go, mine are violated everytime I walk out of my home and fear for my life or the lives of my family because 13 year old children don't know how to behave and the parents of these children are no longer allowed to discipline them. So I think that if any civil rights group starts to protest, I'll sue!?!?!?! God Bless the USA!

Ok. I agree these girls should have been punished for using profainty in school, but jail? What ever happened to in/out of school suspension? Calling the parents into the school, or something along those lines?
It all starts at home, and I feel that parents do not accept responsibility anymore. I always hear in the news it was the teachers fault, the chaperones (sp) fault, but never do you hear a parent say, Hey, it's my fault for not correcting my child when I should have. I have let this child overule me and now this is the result. Jail, I feel was too harsh. It was cursing! They weren't fighting, they weren't doing drugs, I see where no law was broken. |

The Courts are closed on Holidays, and the way Family/Juvenile Court works, their case will be heard on the next business day (weekends don't count), like the Post Office.. Juveniles aren't awarded bond hearings like adults are. |

I agree with the system. If they can act grown, then treat them the same. These young kids try to run the world but when they face their punishment, they want o be kids again

I want to know why instead of arresting the girls, why couldn't they just recieve evening detention for the use of profanity. I think the middle school took it to far by arresting the four girls and not just giving them another punishment that did not have to involve the police.

They should have called in those"civil rights officials" and let them handle the problem, since they think that jail was uneccesary. It's easy to sit back and critique a problem after the fact.
