Eh, Danny H.C. Li, writing from the park bench next to the lua in Keaau: you stay hanging around too many of the mushroom-eating, cannabis-toking, tree-hugging, granola-stuffing, stinky, filthy, no take shower, hippies.

It's clouding your judgment!

The Coward Watada got off on a technicality.

The US Army probably thought he wasn't even worth the ___k.

I would venture to guess, that had they sent him into combat, after what he did in shirking his duty, the sucka probably woulda got fragged.

But, if you no like our America, Mr. Li, then SPLIT.

Go join up with your fellow Communists in North Korea.

And take your rubbish with you.

To Danny H.C. Li: Watada was and is a coward. I dare say most of the readers do not share your assessment.

You cannot run a military where every soldier has the right to decided (after joining) which battles they wish to fight.

In response to Shiyana's latter about teacher furloughs, it is not as simple as you think or maybe you are just going down the wrong path. The real problem is the number of administrators (non-teachers payed by the DOE) whose precious jobs are being kept. If the number of administrators were reduced to a realistic level, then we would not be in this situation.

Good Germans obeyed.

That argument didn't cut it at Nuremberg though.

Those who support Watada may not realize it, but they are suggesting that we change our entire system of government. First of all, the electorate vote for the President and Congress, who decide whether we go to war or not. If Bush lied, then why is there no push to investigate and charge him? Why was there no groundswell to impeach him and Cheney? So the electorate had their shot and they voted for an idiot who did not understand that the enemy is Bin Laden, Al Queda and the Taliban. Sadam could have been dealt with later. Then, the electorate reelected the idiot and no attempt to impeach him again. We no longer have a draft. Soldiers volunteer. Unless they are complete idiots, they understood they would have to fight whatever wars the President and Congress decided, no matter how much they may disagree. If each and every soldier has the right to fight only those wars and battles that he agrees with, what chance do we have of winning any wars. We're already fighting at a great disadvantage because politicians who have no inkling at what combat is like try to micromanage. Our troops fight under Rules of Engagement that place them at a severe disadvantage. The Geneva Convention prohibits the use of civilians as shields. Yet, our troops receive the wrath of our media when the enemy does that and civilians get wounded, thus encouraging them to do so. The media demands the trial of the soldiers who inadvertently wound or kill a civilian being used as a shield rather than the one using them as a shield. Have so many lost their reason?

The Legislature should keep the kids in school while the adults address the question of whether the DOE has too many administrators.

That's ok as long as you cut funding too. Then they can work on both problems at the same time.

That should show us how motivated they are in trying to resolve the issues they should have addressed as a course of normal work.

This letter from Danny Li from Keaau is really off the mark. Former Lt. Watada got a dishonorable discharge and deserves it. I hope he gets no benefits from his time in the service. There is nothing lower than a chicken Lt. Thank god he did not go with his men and put all their lives in danger. Shame on you Watada, you made A on your community and your culture.

The Mainstream Media have lost their reasoning and somewhere down the road may lose a whole lot more ;)
