If the politicans allow revoking the licenses of our disabled seniors, we'll vote them out of office on their ear.

I hope he is found safe.

However,'AARP'...with all due respect, individuals with Alzheimer's should NOT have a valid Driver's Licenses.

That's not to say that ALL disabled seniors should lose the right to drive, but Alzeimer's is a form of Dementia, and should be treated as such. The saftey of others on the road as well as Pedestrians is now severly at risk with this man driving.

This is the Definition of the disease, taken directly from Alz.org

Alzheimer's destroys brain cells, causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior severe enough to affect work, lifelong hobbies or social life.

i too am an aarp member but if you have alzeimers then you have to expect to lose your drivers license,so show some compassion for everyone else that shares the road....driving is a privledge not a right.

I also hope he is found safe.

My father has been diagnosed with dementia and we are currently in the process of having his license revoked.(Which is not an easy process) He thinks he can drive fine, but he also thinks his memory is just fine. He says, "He's just as sharp as he's ever been." He told me that about 10 times within 20 minutes. We have taken away his keys because there's no telling where we'd find him. He remembers the city as it was about 50 years ago.

I remember my mother when she discovered herself that she couldn't drive. I was with her and she pulled off the road and said "I can't do it anymore" and gave me the keys. With her sister it was different, she cried and cried when they told her she did not pass the DMV test and could drive no more (which was good for the public). I'm glad my mother was easy and I hope I will be like that.

This is very sad. I wish luck to you and the other care takers and your father.

It's easier than you think. Go to the DMV website where you will find a form to file out and send in. They then contact the person and send them forms that have to be filled out by their doctor, possibly eye doctor and the person in question. Once that is returned to the DMV they make a determination. I did that for my 86 year old mom last year and they took her license. She could appeal it for up to a year but luckily didn't. I had tried previously to get her to stop but couldn't. Coming from them, she didn't like it, but resigned herself to it. It's the best for all involved. Good Luck !

The great thing about Alzheimer's patients is that you need only one joke repeated at random intervals to keep them laughing all day.
