There, there....allow me to help you retrieve your foot from your mouth there fella! Now for the foot in mouth part. Just because my work has a server in SF doesn't mean I'm a SF type, have gay children, am a bigot or a hypocrite, or that I am guilt ridden and made you listen to me. In fact I live in Newport News VA, my kids are straight, YOU'RE the only bigot here, the last thing on earth I am is a hypocrite, and further more if you don't like listening to guilt ridden people (like yourself) then don't listen!

Well i got news for you!! Come live in Tennessee. I live outside Knoxville and it is horrible here. People are backwards, schools suck, we pay 9.5% tax on everything including food in grocery stores. No income tax, no car tax, they are proposing toll roads but these idiots here dont want that or any taxes period, People here hate outsiders and hate yankees, cost of living is cheap BUT the pay is low, you can drive a car from a junk yard with missing windows, bumpers, etc and they dont care, some people here have 5 kids if not more in a family and they get state help ( TenCare), many disabled people here, fat and lazy. as of the other day, Tennessee's unemployment rate was 10.3%, there i live it is 10% but some counties are 15% BUT Knoxville has the lowest in the state ( 9%).

I used to live in Yorktown back in the day up until 1993 and trust me, if i could afford to live there again, i would go back!!

OHH and i forgot to mention that there are Mexicans everywhere here too!!

will I just got accepted to Harvey Milk High and made the JV Cheerleading team.Marcellus will be the head leader.

Have lived in Hampton for almost 8 years now. Scores for most schools are good. The teachers g=here are great, caring and have plenty of years in the field. Please don't be discouraged about Hampton because some people feel the need to justify overpaying for a house or district. I have never had a single incident involving a crime or foul language near my kids in Hampton. The Walmart is not great and the streets near Jefferson of newport News aren't great, and there is crime in the lower income areas. However, if you look for a house near Wythe, Fox Hill, Bethel, etc. You will find friendly people, good schools, rec family activities and little to no crime.
If you like living near the water this is a great time to buy in Buckroe. They will be building up soon and your value will go up ( I will leave the social justice or injustice of that to someone else).
We live near Fox Hill Rd and are a military family. We feel safe and at home here. We sold our old house in Hampton last yr and made a conscious decision to stay here. Our kids play outside until dark, we take walks in the evening, etc. No threats of crime. Our friends in York County had their mailbox knocked down 3 times, and had their car spray painted 2 times, also had a shed in a neighbors house broken into last year. No community is immune form crime. But,most people are comfortable living with people who "look like them" and if you are white and have a secret problem living near blacks you should not move here. Our neighbor next door is a black professional and couldn't be nicer ... but if that isn't good enough for you do not move here.
I recommend you drive around the areas some of us have mentioned here, get out and ask around. etc.

What a waste of perfectly good air!

I just moved to Hampton and I really love it. I have two children and was also worried about the things you are, however, I just did tons of research. I live in a great neighborhood, my kids go to great schools. The only issue I have is getting to know people because I am stuck in the house all the time lol! I am also from Iowa and have only lived here a short time but it is so beautiful and I could look at the ocean every day for the rest of my life!
