I always liked that park... I can't count the amount of times we'd TP it. Not only that but who hasn't tried to climb that red and white merry-go-round.

If Lawrenceville would give it's youth something to do then maybe they'd be less likely to be causing issue.

This is a recycled issue- no matter what generation it is, they are all doing something the adults don't like, that is inappropriate, or likely to upset the people local to the park.

I'd like to hear less complaining and little more solution finding when it comes to the youth in that town.

In addition, when reading the article, I noticed that one of people quoted states he has issue playing softball in his front yard because of the activity at the park. Who plays softball in their own yard when there is a park acrossed the street.

If the neighborhood would utilize the park during those types of activities it is possible that they would provide an example of acceptable use while strengthening the feel of community, and increasing interaction with those very same youths.

A man should be able to play with his kids in his own front yard... even if a park exists right across the street.

Choosing to enjoy leisure in his front yard as opposed to the park does not mean he gives up the right to do so without worrying about the nature of conversation coming from the youth in the park.

They should do something to make the park family friendly once again and not a haven for drug deals and lewd sexuality.

Since when is it the city's job to "find something for these kids to do"? The solution, sorry to say for some, lies with the parents to take responsibility..which they apparently are not able to do. Maybe a little ' community service' is in order. And yes, the residents of this neighborhood have every right to complain...they are tax paying citizens who saw the positive in living close to the city park and schools.

Your belief that it is not the "city's job" to give kids something to do is exactly why you have an upended teenage pregnancy rate, meth problem, and dying economy. Our youth are the future. It amazes me that as an out of county resident I can't buy myself some cold medicine at your CVS- which by local standards appears acceptable- and by my standards is invasive. Yet spending sometime interjecting some solid values into the local youth is "a parents issue". Your attempts at approving the quality of life in the city are misguided and reversed. And therefore your city is dying. Someone said "It takes a village to raise a child." And they were right. The quote is sited often... Until people realize that this means more than simple postulating- then its not our job. That's ludicrous.

Let me add. I agree with the above statements concerning the park. It should be family friendly- especially for the tax paying citizens. My main point is how the city can come to that solution in the most positive manner.

You wrote in an earlier post that "If Lawrenceville would give it's youth something to do then maybe they'd be less likely to be causing issue". Hasn't the city already given the youth something to do by providing and maintaining the park?? What else would you suggest they give to the youth?

Well for starters- how about some community theater, a skate park, dust off that teen center, a children's museum with an interactive learning center and indoor beach with an aquarium, community pumpkin carving, game night, a youth program that involves them in improving the city. Off the top of my head.

Improve Wishnick park with a better playground that is friendly to all ages... or better yet do that at the old school that is practically the center of the main area of town. There are tons of ideas. Google it if you want more. An art program. A BMX trick class. Dirt biking 101. A youth program that help kids refurbish something for a needier class. A courthouse internship that involves them in local government. Better yet? Why doesn't the city seek out the youth in town and ASK them what they want.

Maybe if this place wasn't a crap hole and they'd give kids something else to do this wouldn't be happening. When most of the people and parents in Lawrence County are alcoholics/pot heads and choose to do nothing about it the kids are going to learn what they are seeing..

It is not fair to dub 'most of the people and parents
in Lawrence County alchoholics/potheads.' What about the citizens in the county who DONATE THEIR TIME to such organizations as the 4-H club, Campfire Girls, Boy Scouts, Baseball leagues...just to name a few. Maybe these activities are a little too 'clean' for some of those who are screaming they have nothing to do....
