Vincennes Newspaper article (dog dies)

I just read an article in the Sun Commerical (online edition) written by a lady who said her boyfriend's dog (a one year old pit bull) had died due to the fact they could not afford medical attention. Losing a pet is like losing a member of your family, I understand that whole heartedly, but with any member of a family, you have to be able to support them. It is not the vet's fault or Pet Port's fault that the dog died and it doesn't all come down to them just trying to make a buck. What it boils down to is the owners were not in the financial position to own a pet. It's just that simple. I feel like the dog's owners put that dog's life in jeopardy when they brought it home and knew that if there was an emergency they couldn't pay for it to be treated.

Alot of people are also not in the financial position to have a child, but they do. I think it was pretty shitty of the Vet to not even take a look at the dog. Like you said a pet is like a member of your family. Would a doctor turn away a sick dying child simply because the family did not have $100 up front? I sure the hell hope not!

I hope I didn't sound insincere about the dog dying, the letter that was in the paper really upset me because an innocent animal died~ and it didn't have to. It frustrates me that people take on responsiblities that they aren't able to handle and then when it gets too much for them they start blaming others or looking for hand-outs. Pets are defensless creatures who rely on humans for thier every need, owning a pet isn't a novelty~
If Pet Port said they could have helped that dog and the owners could have come up with the $60 to re-adopt later (instead of the $100 up front at the Vets)they should have scraped that money up and saved that dog! They are the ones that put a price on that dogs worth, not the vet or Pet Port. If that had been a child and they had to come up with $60 I hope they would have been motivated enough to find the money.
