Hillside Academy more like jail than school

Wow, a classmate of mine is the principal there.....interesting.....her stories are of pains in the @#$ troubled youth that would not have any chance at a productive life and would be in a REAL jail cell forever wtihout this place.....pick your life people, you are there for a reason......get a life, this place will either help you live in society as a decent human being, or just delay your jail sentence....

Why are tax payers dollars paying kids to get a supposedly education!? This school just relocated to my area and i am thinking of contacting the media about its practices I am concerned about what I read on hear !

however getting proof of what's going "to date" is key! My accounts are from over 20-yrs ago and so the reality of the situation could have changed in spades.

When I was in attendance it was 98% white.

Looking at this place this morning is disgusting me. Trying not to be biased but I see people who look like they just were released from prison walking in there. If the claims on this board are true, how does this benefit our youth? Why has nobody brought this to public light before? This is very dishearting to read. I dont know how this school as existed for this period of time with no disclosure of their practices.

I go to Hillside Academy in Texas, and it's great there....except for my 4th grade teacher Mrs.Wilson.......ugh.

I'm hearing alot of you all calling it jail, well it's like this, there's a reason why those children attend Hillside. They are not the best behaved children, they come from all kinds of back grounds. Most are broken homes, detenion centers, and so on. What do you exspect the school to be like, they are not there to baby them and tell them act they way they are supposed to. It's didn't work at home, because if it did they wouldn't be there. Everyone has to take responsibility for there own actions, parents included.

I only attended Hillside Academy for a month during the 2004 school year. I was placed into the Cibs classroom with Mr.Reisler. Mr.Reisler, despite being a lame, was actually a pretty nice and intelligent guy. But, back to my original post. Hillside is a place where you do not receive an education, the school is overrun with gangbangers from the westside of Chicago, Maywood/Bellwood,and Cicero/Berwyn. The rest of the school is comprised of wannabe harda**es from DuPage County. While I was there I witnessed fights and the famed 'slammings' from the linemen sized security guards. Many of the staff I met there seemed to be sadistic and enjoyed handing out punitive and physical punishments.
Also, many of the Hillside students are not actually "bad" kids. Many of them are simply kids who have gotten into a few fist fights, have been caught with some reefer on them, or have some psycological problems. Instead of these children's regular school actually helping them they simply dump them into an environment which is basically a younger version of Cook County Jail.

I hear you clearly. During some restraints, the big teachers would literally *piledrive* those students into the floor! It is a horrible shame that there are still schools out there that want nothing to do with students that have any problems, even those that can easily be solved with a little bit of counselling, and they simply throw them into the dumpster schools like Hillside Academy.

I google mapped the intersection and all I see are a few industrial style storage buildings.

By the way, seeing how violent a large portion of the students there were when I was enrolled there, I am actually surprised that there weren't shootings at Hillside Academy.
