Why was CP Rail blocking US Highway 59 @ 3am when it was pitch black darkness? No crossing arms at railroad tracks either, just stand alone markers. Poor judgement by CP Rail all the way around.

Jason, Thank you for your post. I am wondering if you were in the area during this time? DB was a relative. Have found no other details on this accident other than the evacuation of Plummer. Have seen the earth map of the area and was also questioning how, with all the miles of track, this one crossing on the highway, how this could happen. He was to careful and cautious a driver . Please reply if possible.

PLUMMER — A 65-year-old man from Isanti was killed Saturday morning when the semitrailer he was driving collided with a train along Highway 59 in northwestern Minnesota.

The deceased man's name wasn't immediately released.

The collision caused one of the train cars to derail. No members of the train crew were injured.

Canadian Pacific spokesman Ed Greenberg said that some bunker oil leaked from a train car, and that an environmental team went to the scene. Bunker oil is a fuel used on ships.

Because of the oil leakage, residents within a one-mile radius of the crash site were evacuated at about 8 a.m. as a precaution. The evacuation order was lifted two hours later.
