VERO BEACH — Denise Harvey, 40, of Vero Beach, was sentenced to 30 years in state prison for having sex with a 16-year-old who was a high school friend and baseball teammate her son's.

Harvey was silent Thursday as she was fingerprinted and taken away from being sentenced by Circuit Judge Dan Vaughn. Harvey’s private attorney, Robert Meadows, filed an appeal and Vaughn will hold a bail hearing next week. The date wasn’t set.

Before sentencing she asked the court for mercy. Meadows requested a non-jail sentence of community control.

Vaughn — at the urging of prosecutors — ruled her guilty of having sex with the 16-year-old five times during high school baseball season in 2006. The judge sentenced her to 15 years for each offense. But only two of the terms will be served consecutively, one after the other. The other three will be served at the same time as the others.

Before sentencing, Harvey’s son asked the judge for leniency, saying he needed his mother. Her husband, Charles Harvey, wasn’t present because he was sick, Meadows said.

Also the victim and his family stayed away “because it was too painful,” said Assistant State Attorney Lynn Sloan.

When I was a young man I would have considered myself lucky having had a 40yr old woman.
Matter of fact I STILL would!:)

Let this woman OUT NOW! Not a soul was hurt by her actions. If anything the young guy got an education that didn't hurt him a bit.

Let her OUT. NO crime was committed, she was simply teaching a student how to do things better!

I think this sentence is highly unfair. Male child molesters don't get half of this time for multiple acts. I think she should be punished, however, I think the judge went overboard with the time given. I think you should utube this, and make the national news aware of it.

So, this would be ok if it were a 40yr old man and a 16yr old girl?

This is absolutely STUPID jailing this woman. So she gave some advanced education to a student, probably the BEST education the kid ever got!

Let her OUT NOW!
