You can't really blame the smoke for emptying a Messy*s (Way to Flop!) store. The merchandise and Terry Lundgren's ego have already done that.

Why was a Countryside Fire chief commenting on a fire in Vernon Hills? These burbs are at least 30 miles apart.

Smoke from a light fixture to create enough haze to evacuate an entire department store? Sounds fishy to me.

Smoke gets in your eyes comes to mind. What really matters is that the smoke obscured the crappy selection of anything at Macys.

If Messy's would actually clean their stores and thus not changing the HVAC filters this could have been prevented. As earlier noted; at least its good that there are typically so few people in any of the Messy stores to evacuate...

The tragic of Messy's; America's biggest dump of a department store.

Whenever anything goes wrong at Messy's they evacuate the store even if it isn't really necessary. This is so they have an explaination of their horrible sales numbers for investors. It's far easier to blame the sales slump on unusual events than on a poor business model.

The small details make big differences. The article said the " Countryside Fire Protection District"... district being the key word.

--
The villages of Indian Creek, Hawthorn Woods, Long Grove, Kildeer, and Vernon Hills are either entirely or partially located in the Countryside Fire Protection District. Roughly one-half of the Countryside Fire Protection District is unincorporated Lake County with subdivisions like Sylvan Lake, Countryside Lake, Diamond Lake, Ivanhoe, Gilmer, Indian Trails, and North Hills.

It's not the fire dept of the suburb, Countryside. It's the Fire Protection District, covering unincorporated areas near Vernon Hills. FYI

I assume they did have to get the employees out who weren't already laid off. The way they take care of their stores, I'm not surprised something like this would happen.

Well that's odd. The store is normally empty anyway!

They should just evacuate it permanently.
