Everglades pollution: How much of it is Orlando's sludge?

Full story: Orlando Sentinel

The foul waters of Lake Okeechobee , the failing health of the Everglades and even sick dolphins along the South Florida coast might seem like troubles so distant they could hardly be the Orlando area's responsibility.

The law is very clear. The people that have permits can use them until they expire. In Osceola county all the permits are conditional use permits. A rancher wanted to stop land spreading in 2008 and set up a commercial a dry pellet
program with no run-off. Charles Lee riled the neighbors and after the first hearing before the county commission the rancher pulled his land application and will spread waste until Dec. 2012 on 300 acres. No new permits will be
issued in the protected area of the county.

I usually refrain from name-calling on the message boards, but it takes total fools to foul their own nest.
When the balance tips, and there is no pure water to be had; then, and only then, will the outrage be heard.

It will be too little, too late.

Permits can be used unless they are revoked for cause.

Even if you're in compliance with all the permit conditions, if you're causing damage to the waters of the state or to the property of others, your permit can be revoked.

FUNNY HOW NEOCONS HIDE BEHIND THE GOVERNMENT, WHEN THEY NEED IT.

EVEN FUNNIER HOW THEY WANT THE COURTS THEY DESPISE SO MUCH, TO PROTECT THEM.

The people the enforce the laws state that the land spreading is not the culprit. If proven the land spreading stops. If the legislature that wrote the law to be effective an earlier date the operations would have ended. They didn't.

This all is a bunch of crap, so to speek, the job loss of dozens of people just adds to the mess we are in.... I work in this field and while I work at the wastewater plant side of things, but have been involved in the sludge side as well. We did test after test and never found any nitrate or Phosphorus problems going into lake Toho.
And as for this guy saying DEP is not doing thier job, he is wrong. As your permit runs out, DEP does not renew it to allow for land spreading.

The Mickey Mouse gang in and around Orlando should of never put a permanent camp there. All of those attractions have ruined our Everglades! It is all built on wetlands that directly go into the Everglades and the lake. All of Orlando and the surrounding areas should of never ever been developed so much!

This guy Draper. what is up with him? He announces his candidacy for ag & consumer services - next thing you know, Audubon is releasing a "report" on sludge? Man, i wish my boss would let me use the deliverables of my current job description to seek a better paying employ.
Not complaining, mind you. Just wish my boss were as stupid as his.

But not one drop of water from the dug canals in Miami flow into the everglades? What is that Big canal that goes directly into Lake Obionekanobe from West Palm Beach doing? If anything the water from the north in Osceola County flows down South and helps keep it cleaner.

Take a trip to the Hiway 78 bridge on the Glades/Okeechobee line, and you'll see how "clean" it is.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Cancer

Mercury turning retro is offering you the chance to make sweeping and long-lasting changes to your life, and to clear the ground for some fertile growth in 2010. Lawyers and legal matters, debates, contract negotiations, partnership or other alliances, and joint ventures of any kind need attention. As a Cancerian you don't like endings, but you must now bring an end to any situation or relationship that is holding you back or has passed its sell-by date. Look forward, not back, if you want a glittering future.
