Does anyone remember Geo's Lounge,Sammy's Tavern,The Red Barn or how about The Bastille Lounge that was over in Madison,Il. Those were really the best places to party in the Granite City area. Does anyone know what happened to that Big Bounce that worked at the Bastille Lounge and latter on at Geo's? He just sort of dissappeared around 1982 or so.

Granite used to be a really good place to live and raise a family however now it is just like E.St. Louis. I remember when they used to have bands at Sammy's Tavern a long time ago. I wo9nder if Sammy's is still there or not?

sammy's, and sports tap, across the street, are no longer operating. the building that housed sports tap is gone, and the shoe repair store that was next to sammy's is also gone. G.C. has changed much since the 1970's. The red barn was torn down long ago, and a schnuck's store is there, mister donut is now auto zone, smilin' joe's liquors is now blockbuster videos. Not many taverns are around anymore, the dram shop insurance and other related issues (perhaps the smoking ban) are closing up many taverns. the bastille is now a car wash, boshkoff's a feed store, hoppe's was closed, straight home is shuttered up, may reopen when 20th street is done for construction(they repaved that street from Madison Ave. to Il 162).

There is now a correction: Straight Home is no longer standing, the edifice was torn down a couple of weeks ago.
