Do you vote? Have you ever stepped up to run for office or volunteer for any of the community activities? Do you give your time and effort to make this community better? Or do you just come on Topix and whine about how other people don't do things the way you want?

Do you blame your English teachers for your lack of mastery of the language. As far as the mayor and council, what have YOU done lately to make this town be more to your liking?

hello wrote: DO you come on here to bash others for telling the truth ? Nope. But I sure don't like it when people come on here to whine about VW, the mayor, the council, and everything else when they don't lift a finger to make it better. Don't like it? Do something to change it for the better.

Who do you think the "monied people" are around here and why would they care? If I had lots of cash I'd pretty much ignore whatever else was happening and go about my business.

Well, a lot of the "monied people" are deeply invested in this community. They own businesses and property here and they want to see the community succeed. They could take the cash and run but they believe in VW and want it to succeed.

Don't be blaming the people with money..... they are the reason we have the stuff we have here. Don't like the way things are going? Get a petition together with your friends and neighbors. Run for office. Volunteer. Start a homeless shelter, or a soup kitchen. Or, you could just wait for someone else to do it and whine about it in the meantime.

Actually, I do volunteer my time, and I'm already involved with our food programs. But nice try there, pretending like you know anything about me. I'm not blaming the people with money. I'm blaming hostile, backwards people like you. What have you done for the community? Apparently, not enough, huh?

You are right, I don't know anything about you. But you don't know anything about me either. I have donated time, money, and goods for years. If your kids have ever been in an after-school program I would guarantee it was in part funded by me.

Please wait...
This is a town that was built on the backs of manufacturing plants and now most of those plants are either gone or pay considerably less. This town is made up of mainly retirees and retirees kids who didn't move out of town when they grew up. A lot of small towns like VW are dwindling down to nothing. And until we get some jobs in the area, it'll probably keep getting worse. It isn't the leaders fault that the industry left. But it is their fault if something isn't done to adapt. Cause those auto manufacturing jobs aren't ever just gonna magically return.

I have a feeling that we all know each other away from Topix. Funny how that works. We are probably the monied people we're talking about.

I am on city council and I can attest that not one of us is wealthy or has a "big" name in town. I would encourage you to run for council or even mayor. We would be very interested to hear your ideas on how you wwould bring jobs and growth to Van Wert. I would also encourage you to read the description of the responsibilities of a city council person on city's website www.vanwert.org so that you are informed as to exactly WHAT we do there.

What new things would you want to come to Van Wert? Are you talking jobs, leisure activities, educational opportunities, or something else? please be specific. What makes you think that the Major and city council are keeping out anything? The reality is this is a small town in the US that has taken hits such as factories leaving because of "fair trade" (which is another issue.) I say, if you don't have the incentive to do the job at hand (city council, mayor) then you don't have the right to make general criticisms like: closed minded, dead beat, haven't done anything, Your negative generalizations need some real facts. One other question, have you even gone to one city council meeting?
