How about it NOT being a levy that goes on property taxes? Property owners took a big hit a year or so ago when properties were re-valued, and every time some group wants something the property owners foot the bill.

As I understand it right now, the proposal would be a property tax on only properties within the city of Van Wert. That way the City of Van Wert can have sole control over the project. Mayor Farmer is solicting qualifications from firms for the design of a "Family Aquatic Center." The notice should appear again the the Times-Bulletin on August 24, 2012.

Why do liberals think they are entitled to everyone else's money. What is wrong with letting people keep the money they have or letting those who use it pay for it?

Taxes are already high enough. I pay upwards of 50% including federal, state, city, property tax, school tax, sales tax, Phone tax, gas tax, communications tax, etc. Enough with taxing people more to support your whims. Pay for them yourself.

Any type of tax to be used for a city pool I would vote no for. Our property tax has went up several times in the past few years for no reason. It's like a penalty for not letting your house fall into ruins. We all know our value has plummeted, yet somehow the evaluator claims our home is worth more than ever. Please! If this keeps up we won't even vote yes for continuations of the senior center or school related things because it has to stop somewhere!

Enough- trust me this isn't a political issue. Everyone knows this is a conservative town yet they voted in the new schools (tax) and many other things which take our money. So think again.

Values of homes were way to damn high! Now they are where they should be. Now the average family can afford to buy a decient home at a fair price!

Why should Van Wert residents have to drive to Delphos to swim outside? They shouldn't. VW should have the nicest pool in a 100 mile radius. Of course we as Americans want everything for no cost right? That's the mindset of folks who vote against a community asset.

You suggest I want a pool. I do not. Why do we need a pool at tax payer's expense. You want it you pay for it. I already pay for your food stamps. That is enough.

Those who wanted tennis courts found away to pay for them. Those who want a pool should find a way to pay for it. Why is it asking too much that I be allowed to keep my money and use it for what I want to use it for? My money if mine, not yours or Obama's.

wildon883r How much are you willing to contribute towards a new pool, a dollar? Let's not forget it will take money to maintain it, too. You want to go swiming in an outside pool; pay for it yourself.

You want to swim outside? You can always do what we did and what they do in other parts of the country; go swimming in the creek.

That is very dumb! Leave if you don't like it here. We won't miss you.

You seem like an irresponsible, whiny prostitute!

Count wide taxes won't work it was tried a few years ago if you all remember.. The eastern part of the county wouldn't pass the pool levy since delphos is already close and not costing them tax moneys..and the same with the southern areas with celina and I believe at the time Rockford had a pool as well.. I am all for a city pool but I am skeptical if it would pass on the ballot as a tax..

Then why did my property tax go up more than once in the past two years? Because now the appraiser for the city says it's worth more now than ever. We both know that's a load of ****!

Those of us who really wanted a pool bought a home that had one or built one. I see those blow up and hard wall pools all over town too. All I know is if this comes to a vote I, and my family, will be voting no. My wife and I work in another town, if property tax continues to rise we will cut our losses here (and it will be a loss) and move to Indiana. Check out Fort Wayne and their housing market, at least there your home is actually worth what the city claims it is and taxes are substantiated.

The city/county should pay for the pool themselves. A pool is not like a park. The pool will generate revenue which will increase the city/county money pool. If we're taxed for this we better be getting a cut or free admission when this thing starts turning a profit.

With a high property tax and a 1.8% city income tax, it is no wonder working homeowners have had enough.

If we absolutely have to have these extra's, how about adding them to the sales tax?

That way, every item purchased helps pay for these "luxuries", and the homeowners and people working here do not have to foot the bill, again.

I've read where the wind companies are paying huge taxes. If that's so, then let's use some of that money to build the pool. If the pool is profitable, it can repay and sustain itself. If it can't be profitable, then it is unnecessary. BTW, there already is a plan for an aquatic park. Done by a Cleveland firm about ten years ago.

Where would they build the new pool? If it is inaccessible to city kids on bikes or walking, I would be against it.

Camp Clay has a nice place, that's true. I'm guessing it's also pretty stagnant, like a pond. Lots of folks just don't like cloudy brown/green water. For those who don't mind, go for it.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Gemini

Beware wishful thinking because it will cloud your thoughts and lead to confusion. However, that's much easier said than done, because today you're showing distinct tendencies towards living in a rosy world of your own and ignoring any hard facts that are under your nose. Take care that you don't allow someone to dupe you simply because you aren't paying attention to what they're saying or doing.
