Let's start moving back towards reality, people!

The issue is CIVIL marriage equality. Religious arguments have NOTHING to do with this. Many Christian denominations fully support the right of their same sex attracted members to marry those whom they fall in love with.

This government was founded on a principle of secular law. Those whose religion prohibits same sex marriage do not have the right to dictate their beliefs on those whose religion allows it. They have no right to dictate to the law that their beliefs should be used as justification for political oppression.

Too many people use their religion to justify their own prejudices, both in marriage and in nondiscrimination law. That needs to stop.

Sorry to disillusion you but sodomy is not illegal. It hasn't been illegal in any part of this country since 2002 when the Supreme Court of the United States invalidated all laws that tried to make it illegal. Second, numerous heterosexuals engage in sodomy, that is, non reproductive sex. This being the case, why are you not asking for the negation of their marriages?

There are no rational or compelling logical arguments against the inclusion of same sex couples to the special rights, benefits and responsibilities of civil marriage. We are not discussing incest, bestiality or polygamy here. Those issues are separate and have nothing to do with the law we are talking about. Same sex couples are just as deserving of civil marriage recognition as heterosexual couples are.

Heterosexual drug pushers, rapists, child abusers, murderers and serial killers are all still allowed to marry in New York State. Aren't these people truly deviant? Your emotional rants may sound good to you. They may make you feel better in your defense of your personal prejudices. They have nothing to do, however, with the reality of the issue and the righteousness of making the law apply to ALL deserving people, not just the ones who believe the same as you do.

Big, you wanted to debate ... SO, being civil we can debate this.

As far as Sodomy being against the law ... it doesn't much matter if it is hetrosexual or homosexual sodomy ... It is a matter of a victim complaining of a crime. If you wanted to turn your wife in for giving you oral sex, you could.

The issue you raise with the fight for privacy ... do you support the government's infringement on it's people's personal matters? I don't because once you open the flood gates for the government to meddle in your private business, it is hard to get them back out. And although you may support it now because it goes along with your beliefs, what happens when a different group gets elected, and then they have the power to go after you. This is where I stand. I really couldn't care less what gay people do ... but if I allow the government to take thier rights, who will stand with me when they are after mine?

I would suggest that you have it backward. The queers are asking the government to endow them with new rights, ie to step in. The straights want things to remain the same, ie keep out. I vote for keep out also.

That kind of activity should be practiced in private and kept out of the public eye. For that matter, I don't care to see a man and woman blatantly groping each other either. The real tragedy is that we are raising a generation of kids to adopt the notion that anything is acceptable.

Okay, I SEE you point about public displays of affection, but that is a different issue than banning a marrage between two people.

As far as addressing the first part, Gays are not asking for new rights, trying to get government to keep it's word.

When the constitution was written, it stated ALL people were created equal. It took another 87 years (1863) include blacks, and 94yds (1870) for women.

The gays are just doing what the blacks and women have already done ... they are asking to be treated equal with the rest.
