Homeowners on the lake should have their home valuations decreased.

I was in the suburb of White Bear Lake last month and noticed that while White Bear Lake was terribly low, other lakes near it had reasonable levels.
I was also told by an older resident that this has happened to the lake before (while nearby lakes were relatively unscathed)back in the thirties I think he said, so it does look like White Bear Lake is more susceptible to drought conditions as the article says.
If it continues too much longer though (say well into next summer) they may have to dig some kind of tunnel improving the lake's access to the local watershed.

They should just let the septic systems drain directly into the lake like they do in Wisconsin.

A friend of mine lives in Hugo and was actually having problems with flooding in his house (Hugo has a high watertable) but it was worse than it had been in prior years and he suspected that a natural drainage had been blocked off by recent development. I don't know how he managed to prove it to the county but he did and showed the county how natural drainage had been blocked due to development which was causing water to back up on his property. You also apparently didn't notice that I said that other local lakes around White Bear Lake have REASONABLE levels. Perhaps you should actually read what someone posts before you "pipe off".

I lived my entire life in White Bear Township next to the lake. The natural watershed has been cut off by the development in HUGO and other areas on the North West end. 40 years I watched the swamps and other wet settlements dry up-- the natural run off stop with my own eyes. You don't need to be a G-Dam government official to tell me what I already know. Don't come on here and act like you have some profound insight, your another dumbass who wants to speculate. Its sad to see the water level deteriorating, I've watched it for 6 years now, but at the same time, I get a kick out of the people who live on the lake with their 500-foot long docks in the water, and nobody outside enjoying their "lake space". The waters low, it isn't gone. Better hurry & enjoy it while you can, another five years and it could be one big mud puddle in the middle!

The guy from the Township right. What the heck do you know about the affairs of this town. Just some old guy waxing his memories? Give it a rest and stay in Murderapolis. We know the environmental impact of the development has caused. Your just miffed cause used al Frankenstein name in vain. Sarah D wrote: <quoted text> Hugo may not drain into it anymore. Pipe it from Goose Lake

Goose lake is full of water, and other stuff. IF White Bear is drying up because of developments, where in he11 has the Gobernut been? Doesn't the Gobernut mandate environmental impact including stormwater runoff? IF development really ends up draining White Bear then, as I understand it, the developers guilty would be forced to replace the lake with a lake twice the size of the lake drained be the actions of the developer. Furthermore White Bear has historically been filled with well pumps to maintain its level. This pumping occurred for many years and I remember swimming in the cold water from the pump houses near the Ramsey County beach. Seems to me there were at least 3 pumps that kept the water level in the normal range. One pump was near the Ramsey County Beach, one near the Manitou bridge, and one near Willernie. For Gobernut to allow White Bear Lake to dry up would be a blatent case of enviromental sabotage. IMHO there may be a back room plan to dry it up causing lakeshore property values to also dry up and then the back room movers and shakers will buy up the cheap property and then like magic lake levels will recover and their investments will skyrocket!! Oh you say it can't be..
