Full story: The Reporter

Firewood businesses are feeling the burn in a year that has seen unseasonably warm winter weather coupled with a number of counties putting burn bans in effect -- both voluntary and otherwise -- to reduce pollution.

Air quality is very important. Polluted air blows down valley and gets stuck on the south end of the valley. We need to do our part to keep the air as clean as possible.

Spare the air days are a good idea. New homes rarely have fire places in them these days. I never use my fire place, I'd love to get rid of it and create more living room space.

I hear that pretty soon it won't be OK to barbecue with briquettes on your own patio.

I'd like to see some numbers comparing the operation of a residential fireplace to the operation of a typical passenger car for the same time period. Does anybody know? It just seems to me that burning wood must surely be less harmful than burning gasoline or diesel fuel. And what defines pollution anyway? Particulate matter? Gases created like CO and CO2? Carcinogens? What about gas-powered tools, like lawn mowers? BBQ's? Is prohibiting the burning of wood in fireplaces just a drop of water in the ocean compared to pollution coming from the traffic on I-80?
I'm wondering what really gets accomplished by having fireplace police snooping into what comes out of peoples' chimneys.
Your questions hurt! Please don't do this again on the tr...oh, we're the Vacaville forum! lol!
The focus on fireplaces and next it will be sparklers on Halloween is because the air quality regulators cannot even begin to think about grappling with the true culprit: pollution from our cars, trucks, trains, buses, all modes of transportation. I was in the city yesterday and was one of very few motorists able to use the diamond lane. So let's smother (was that a pun?) our ability to burn wood in our fireplaces because that's easy.

I'll do as I please. Also, I know a couple who paid a small fortune for one of those electric fireplaces. It's ugly and you can't smell or hear anything. It's so weird...

That extra 2 square feet is really going to make your living room that much bigger?

Let's go a step further. Why limit the deadly gasses and toxins emitted from our fireplaces?
Let's get everyone involved in sparing the air and have a day where nobody gets to turn on the ignition of an engine!
Walk, run, use your kid's scooter, or bicycle to work. For commuters? Well, maybe as a trial run we could allow trains, Bart and the ferries to run.
And to heck with this volunteer nonsense. Make it mandatory! That will raise the consciousness of all, including the spare the air folks themselves!
And it's only for one day, right?

Better yet, how about you turning off your computer, PDA, etc. and going dark for a day. Think of all the power plants that could idle down from the excess capacity they would experience by not having to provide power to your nonsense posts.

Here are some new slogans coming soon to a radio near you.

"Show you care and spare the air."

"Be real good and don't burn wood."

"Don't be an A**, burn with gas."

"I don't want you to barbaque."

"IF". That is a big if. Consideration is given to Property Ownership and Property Lines, THEN. Understanding of what "TRESPASS" "Illegal; Dumping" & "Nuisance", draw CLARITY.

Thing is DON'T DUMP YOUR CRAM OVER MY PROPERTY LINE. IF I choose to dump "NON PERGED" vapors into the air, The "LAW" is clear. I am responsible. SO ARE YOU...

Soo when YOU are dumping your smelly laundry exhaust ionto yopur neighbors property, THINK THIS. It will take some time , but "THEY" will get you and "YOU" will be paying.

LIMONENE- Carcinogenic.“Prevent its contact with skin or eyes because it is an irritant and sensitizer.”“Always wash thoroughly after using this material and before eating, drinking, applying cosmetics. Do not inhale limonene vapor.”
LINOLOOL-Narcotic. Cause CNS disorders.“respiratory disturbances”…Attracts bees.” In animal test: ataxic gait, reduced spontaneous motor activity and depression…development of respiratory disturbances leading to death.”…”depressed frog heart activity.
PENTANE-Danger—Harmful if inhaled; extremely flammable. Do Fabric Softeners Make You Sick?
Exposure can result from the outgassing of vented dryers or from treated fabrics (e.g., clothes, sheets, towels), which are in close proximity to you. Questions to ponder:
*Have you been enjoying a walk in the neighborhood and found you have suddenly fallen without realizing why?
*Do you get a numb feeling in the side of your face—and the doctors can’t find the reason?
*Do you get a sudden onset of dizziness or a headache?
*Fabric softeners, like other fragrant products, contain petrochemicals, used in untested combination. These chemicals can adversely affect the central nervous system (CNS)—your brain and spine.
*CNS exposure symptoms include: aphasia, blurred vision, disorientation, dizziness, headaches, hunger memory loss, numbness in face, pain in neck and spine.
*CNS disorders include: Alzheimer’s Disease, Attention Deficit Disorder, Dementia, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Seizures, Strokes, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
*If you use fabric softens liquid or sheets STOP
Save the container as evidence—doctors can request analysis.
If made ill by fabric softener used by another person give product name if known. Provide a description of your symptoms.
Take this paper to your doctor to help document your symptoms.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Pisces

Having to bow down to convention or limitations is enough to make you want to scream right now, and you'll do your utmost to rebel in any way you can. Be careful about this because you could easily get on the wrong side of someone who has power or authority over you. It feels as though you're battling with forces that want to keep you under control, and you don't like it one bit.
