There are honorable people out there! I want to thank whoever found my purse and returned it to my front door Monday morning.
On Sunday night, I had put my purse on top of my car while loading my dog in the back seat after watching the Super Bowl at a friend's house. I got into the car and drove off, with the purse still on top of the car.
I didn't realize what had happened until about 10 minutes later. I went back to the parking lot to hunt for my purse, but couldn't find it. Lo and behold, when I returned home from walking the dog Monday morning, my purse was hanging on my front door. All of the ID's and credit cards were still there, as was my cell phone.
Thank you to the very nice person who returned my purse and IDs. They are welcome to the money that was in the wallet. They deserve it.

If this person was truly "honorable" they wouldn't have taken money out of the wallet. What they should have done was to leave a note with their contact information so if Gayle thought a reward was in order she could send one.

So this gal is thanking a thief because her purse and id were returned but not the cash in the wallet?

Yes it's rotten that they stole her cash, but it could have been much worse, and I think that's the point the writer was trying to make. We all know how annoying it is to have to go to DMV for a new license, as well as call all of your credit card companies to cancel your cards and wait for new ones. You also have to cancel your debit card, so you are without that convenience while you wait for a new one. Her cell phone has all of her contacts, and who knows how expensive her phone is-that's money she saved right there.Who knows if she had pictures in her wallet, and not to mention whoever found the purse had everything they needed to steal her identity. Sometimes in life when bad things happen,it makes it seem not as horrible if we look for the "at least" in the situation. I may have crashed my car, but at least I am alive. I rse stolen, but at least I still have all of my identification and credit cards. Remember, no matter how bad things seem, they can always be worse :-) A few weeks ago my keys fell off of my wrist in Walmart. I didn't realize it, until I left and couldn't find my keys. I assumed I left them at the register, but come to find out, they were foundin the area in the front of the store where the gumball machines are. Thankfully someone turned them in. A dishonest person could have found them, clicked the alarm/panic button, located my car in the very bare parking lot, and driven away. It's times like that that I'm thankful for the little things in life, and the honesty that some people still possess.

I know a couple guys who still carry their social security cards in their wallets! I have never lost keys or a purse, but have lost money and one time left a wallet in a department store. I got it back less the cash, and I was so mad, but that was back in a day where replacing stuff wasn't so complicated and identify theft wasn't heard of.

BS, the person did not have the right to take the cash, should have returned the purse in person and taken whatever Gayle offered, if that was a simple thank you than so be it. I tell you one thing, I would definitely be changing my card numbers ASAP.

Most men carry all thier important things in their wallets. I ride a motorcycle and use a wallet with a chain. Most people thing that is about being a biker. No it's about keeping your wallet. The chain has a purpose. To keep me from loss.

Good point, I didn't really think about the cards since they were there but is sure isn't a strech that a person could copy the number and code and be shopping all over the internet.

It happened to me, the police caught the girl that got my card number, she worked at the smoothy shop in the Fearfield mall and made a copy of it. Stupid girl did all of her Christmas shopping with it and had it all sent to her house in FF, that was a hard one to trace back to her.

AND, I would not publicly thank the thief. However, I NEVER thought about changing the card numbers. Good point!

I'm still waiting for the Topix old timers to tell me why they call it "Fayfield."

Gayle letter is premature, whoever found her purse now has enough of her personal information to attempt ID theft. Returning the purse to her residence along with CC's and other ID's may have been done on purpose to give her a false sense of security while the ID theft is attemped.

With all the vacant properties around that a person could use to receive deliveries, I can't see someone being so stupid to have stuff shipped to their own address.

I wonder if they returned the purse, like you said, to give her a false sense of security, or to let her know"we know where you live." Spooky.
