In 2005 I was diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer which had spread into my lymphatic system and throughout my body. It was Dr. Dang who found a swelling in my throat which I thought was from a bad cold i had at the time. He said he thought I had Lymphoma but did not want to fool around with it and referred me out immediately to Dr. Chafhe. He saw me the same day, did a needle stick biopsy in his office, and told me it was likely I had a cancer in my throat. He told me not to worry, but recommended I go into St. E's the next day for a "more throrough biopsy". I agreed and the next day after 7 hours of surgery he removed a huge tumor which had tangled itself up in my neck and would have killed me in weeks. He took out 47 lymph nodes and completely resected my neck and shoulder to remove it all. I began having tests which indicated that the cancer was in my lymphatic system and appearing in my liver. For about two days I was sure I was about to die. Dr Chafhe referred me to Dr. Butala and Dr. Crawford at Faxton Hospital Regional Cancer Center, and three weeks after my surgery I started simultaneous Chemotherapy and Radiation therapy for six weeks, which totally kicked my ass. I took about four months to recover from that, and so far six years later I am cancer free. All of these doctors are from Utica, and the hospitals are both Utica hospitals. These physicians saved my life and I am extremely lucky to have had them. Don't listen to people who tell you that you can't get good medical care here because its not true.

By the way, Faxton was not a participating provider in my insurance and so I had to pay 40% of my bill on my own. This came to several thousand dollars, which I was unable to pay because I was out of work for so long. the hospital was very understanding and worked out a plan with me that I was able to pay them back over time. During the payoff period, I was given credits on several occasions for making early payments, which reduced the bill by over a thousand dollars. They were very reasonable with me as wast. Elizabeth's.

That shows that a doc can be "good" to one and "bad" to another...SO glad you are ok. Best of luck.

Any thoughts on Orlando? Wondering b/c my Mom was refered to him. Is he good? Bedside manner? What about Sleeper? Anything that could help me with these, I would appreciate it.

Please wait...
Dr. Dang has the most pathetic bedside manner I have ever seen. He is unwilling to field questions for more than 20 seconds and had made rude comments on more than one occasion. I don't live in Utica any longer but I had been forced to deal with this man in regard to family that saw him. Not only is he the worst doctor in Utica, he very well may be the worst doctor in the United States.

For all of you idiots complaining that foreign doctors flock to Utica there are just as many in Syracuse and pretty much all over. I myself am an RN at Upstate but went to nursing school at St E's and worked there after graduating. A lot of "American" doctors go to med school overseas as well. Maybe you shouldn't be racist and just allow the doctor to provide care for you with an unbiased opinion.

First of all, please spell the name correctly, it is Dr. Krasniak. Now were you having cosmetic surgery to look like a "soapstar"? Perhaps you are jealous of Ms. Baker's looks and therefore find it necessary to trash her anonymously? These are two of the finest healthcare providers in this area and I would highly recommend them to anyone. I'm sorry they could not help you, but can anyone truly help you?
