And the red sox, angels. white sox, cardinals, and diamond backs didnt buy theirs???? Even the marlins who won in '03 had a huge pay role compared to their usual pay roll. Im sure you are a red sox fan that is just upset they couldnt even make it the divisional series even though they are the second highest paid team in the majors!! Now go get me a beer while I watch the Yankees Win!!

Having a high payroll is one thing. Having a payroll that is more than $50 million dollars higher than the next closest team is an entirely different thing.
Just about every analyst as well as avid baseball fan out there are unanimous in saying that the Yankees spending this off season was not good for baseball.
BTW, better get your facts straight, Red Sux weren't second and were actually $80 million lower payroll than Yanks this year!
Here is ranking of 2009 Salaries.
1.) Yankees =$202,000
2.) Mets =$149,000
3.) Cubs =$134,000
4.) Red Sox =$121,000

This is the 9'th consecutive season the Yankees have had highest payroll. I guess you could say they better win this year!
No pressure Joe G.??

The money argument is like saying I won't buy a Mercedes because my neighbors can only afford a Chevrolet. If you got it, spend it.

I know it's a very disheartening fact but every batter in the Yankee lineup can end the game in one swing. That's called TOO BAD!
interesting

Here are the actual payrolls of teams left in playoffs.

1.) Yankees =$202,000,000
2.) Angels =$114,000,000
4.) Phillies =$113,000,000
5.) Dodgers =$100,000,000

The yankees have had the highest payroll for the lats 9 seasons with no rings to show for it.(last ring in 2000)
I have a feeling this year will turn out to be more of the same. No ring

The Yankees would have a lot less World Series titles if they had to work and develop talent rather than buy it from another team that did/does this.

However, Yankee fans don't care how they got the rings, so long as they got them. They brag on this organization like they have done all this by honest and ethical means. It may be within Baseball's rules to do this, but it is still not right. This is no better than a politician who buys an election. Most of the rest of us know that this is wrong, except (MOST) Yankee fans, who have little class anyway.

BTW, it was not surprising to me that the other scumbag New York (Mets) team had the second highest payroll in 2009, right behind the Yankees.

I hope they choke, just like the Mets did by not being in this years playoffs. Although the Mets will probably be in the 2010 playoffs when they spend a 100 million more on players next year. Sickening, just sickening.

when the yankees won all of those world series, they did it with a core of homegrown players: jeter, williams, petite, rivera, posada, etc. when the red sox won in 2004, they didnt have a SINGLE homegrown player on the roster. now let's talk about who is buying championships and who is developing them.

You are really showing your ignorance here. First of all, you say that there is nothing illegal about the way they built their team, and then you go and compare the Yankees to a politician buying an election, which does happen to be illegal. Bad analogy there, junior.

Then you complain that the only way they win is by having the highest payroll in baseball. Again your ignorance shows through. How do all of the other teams win it all the years that the Yankees didn't win? Did they have the biggest payroll those years? No, Payroll has nothing to do with it. It has to do with being able to put it all together and play with a sense of teamwork, Coaching talent sure as hell helps too. Your comment is an insult to any team that has ever won the World Series.

And speaking of payroll, you mention the Mets payroll and talk about them "choking". If you knew anything, you would know that the Mets had a large number of injuries on their team this season and that is what led to their demise. Clearly, again, payroll has little to do with winning and losing.

And finally, as another person posted, the Yankees don't have a bunch of recruits from other teams. They have a core team of career players with a few changes made each season. The year the Red Sox won they were the ones who bought and pieced together players from other teams.

Learn a little about the sport before you come on here a spew your nonsense at everyone!
