I think the jury got it wrong. I'm not saying that Patterson shouldn't do time for what he did, I just think with all the mistakes from Law Enforcrment the charges didn't fit. If the trial was in a different jurisdiction I don't think you would have the same results.

I think most people agree with you! He did break several laws. But it seems he was pushed to do so by the poor judgement calls by law enforcement

Most definately..I would never say Patterson is an angel but there were other options available for LE to explore instead of "storming the castle"..but don't tell the prosecution that.:)

I'm sure he will appeal but he needs to get a real lawyer.

I think Patterson should be freed until the final report comes in from the Sheriffs dept. How did this guy get a fair trial with so many incomplete and un-answered questions on what really happened. The sheriffs department is being looked at on what went wrong and changing policies as we speak but yet have no bearing on the innocence or tragic accident and not murder that this truly was. The jury got it completely wrong as all the mistakes that law enforcement should have been taken into account. This is a man that was cold, tired, distraught about his relatioship with his wife, a spot light blairing in his eyes for hours, had been shot at and bum rushed and they call it aggravated murder. NO WAY!!!!!!!!! Get this guy a high paid lawyer and free him and take in account law enforcements mistakes and responsibility.

Sheriffs deputies mishandled the tragedy, to say the least. They did the same with the Stephen Barnes case. Young men trained to attack, kick doors down in Iraq And then come home, still on that high, and remain in that mode. The governmenta Trained them to do this but fails to untrain them when they return home. Sad for all involved. when you read stories of attack mode behavior, notice how many are war vets. Unfair to all involved.

That trial was a joke. The jurors had their minds made up from the start, or they were intimidated by the sherriffs deputies staring them down in the courtroom. The trial went the way it did because Oneida county had to protect itself. The county can't afford another lawsuit, and there have many in the past few decades. Bottom line, the county is broke..Patterson had to hang. But it doesn't mean he's guilty. Maybe a miracle will happen and he'll obtain a good lawyer for his appeal.

The overwhelming majority of the posts here indicate to me that there are serious problems in that sheriffs office and they can't handle criticism. This new sheriff is a joke and he has no honor or dignity he should step down and let someone who has real experience in there to straighten his mess out. If this doesn't wake people up to the absolute ZERO credibility and accountability of the law and the fake prosecutors and judges around here nothing will!

I believe they had a fast speedy trial before the truth came out that would exaunerate patterson. He should go free after the whole story and truth comes out. I never heard of anyone being tried and convicted before an investigation is completed or all the facts are known that would allow him a fair trial. This was a kangaro court and a linching before the fact. FREE PATTERSON NOW!!!!!!!!

He can always appeal. I don't think he was guilty of murder, manslaughter is more appropriate. Our society cosideres law enforcement our expert, often leaning on their judgment even when we're suppose to be an impartial jurors.

I hope this isn't over because it is a terrible in justice. But, I don't think he has a prayer without a. Paid attorney. Who is not employed by the county. I would bet that if the state police were called in. To handle this situation Patterson and wyman would be home with their families.

the sheriff says standoff situations are different in every case. yeah when the criminal shots first or acts first but that never happened here? in this case the sheriffs shot rubber bullets first.. "when" the lighting was bad.. at a man who "allegedly" told them he had more bullets in his pocket and the gun was loaded ??? how can these officers not except responsibility for their actions?....Paterson clearly didn't want to go to jail he had his gun and never complied Kurt never talked with the woman who called 911 he would have said she hit him first and this would have been over with her arrest she had no marks on her,, hopefully in the internal review it doesn't show another officer killed Kurt from behind we all know this is why they do this type of review because officers have been known to kill one another

I think you should direct your comments to the defense if so.

He couldn't see anyone outside his garage with all the lights in his eyes. He was shot first and suddenly without the other deputies knowing they were going to shoot. There was no reason to shoot Patterson. Kurt shouldn't have been where he was. The deputy shooting through the windshield shouldn't have knowing the bullets won't go straight where you're aiming. Kurt followed orders and wasn't told not to go in. None of the deputies heard the same thing yelled - no no, go, go, etc. Everyone said Patterson wasn't a threat to them. They hadn't had training. The State Police should have handled it so that Kurt would still be alive. Why isn't the report finished after all this time and knowing the trial date? I think we all know why.

Too bad we don't have the death penalty. Patterson should fry, after all didn't he want to kill himself anyway. He just didn't have the balls to kill himself, so he decided to kill someone else. Like he said strap him to the table and lets give the onlookers a show :)
