WKTV Suffering?

How is it possible that the #1 rated station in Utica with it's self proclaimed "most experienced" News Team is still only broadcast in 4:3 with pillar bars? WUTR/WFXV likely has far fewer resources (as evidenced by the limited newscasts, no sports, etc.) yet put out a far superior technical presentation. WUTR is true HD and I noticed far less technical glitches with them than with WKTV. WKTV routinely queues up the wrong clips, puts up the wrong graphics, or has some other technical blip. I was hoping that WKTV would step up their game with the competition, but they seem quite content just phoning it in. WKTV has some decent talent too with additions like Hilary Lane and Lexie O'Conner who really shine. However, the question remains that in this day and age where HD is the standard, why is WKTV so technologically behind a far smaller station? They can't claim financial as they already have an HD master control in place for network and they have massive cash flow from advertisers rolling in. Hell, Carbone alone should be able to pay for new HD cameras!

This does not surprise me the least. WKTV has a history of always being behind everyone else. I do believe that they were the last station in the country back in the 1980's to transition from 16mm newsfilm to videotape. Can you believe it! They held on to 16mm film for newsfootage instead of videotape! No doubt they will be the last station in the country to transition to HD. Even if they don't go to HD right away, why can't they send out a 16:9 enhanced picture? I suspect their union has something to do with this. They would have to change the job description of someone and they are not allowing it without higher wage and increase in union dues. I've heard the reason that they were so far behind in abandoning 16mm film years ago was due to the union not wanting to eliminate the positions of film developers and projector operators and create positions of tape operators and editors. History just keeps on repeating!

The people who are suffering the most are the people who have to watch their terrible unprofessional newscast in Utica because there is no other viable alternative. (WUTR is not a viable alternative.)

I'm not talking about the actual news worthiness of the content, but more over the presentation. When you tout how experienced you are, yet have daily technical glitches and errors during your show and still present it in a manner that was outdated 5 years ago, you should be embarrassed. WUTR's presentation BLOWS AWAY WKTV's!

If not go HD, then as mentioned above - do a 16x9 Enhanced Widescreen like WSTM. Sure, it's not HD, but at least it fills the screen and gives them a little more professional look.

WUTR hands down. They are a 10000% better then WKTV

Would be nice if we could get any of the Utica stations in HD in Rome. I'd love to see some of the reporters in HD! and NO, not Joleen Ferris either.

As far as technology goes I agree that WUTR is superiorr. However, when it comes to local news. I find it hard to believe that there is only 5 to 6 minutes of local news then goes to world or country news. They should try harder to put or LOCAL news in the local news. There is news out there they just have to find it.

I'd like to see Jill Reale in a swim suit in HD. She is the Creme Bomb. Lickity dickity.

What is the big deal of who is going to co-host the morning news with Don Shipment. I find nothing funny about Shipman going on all week until Friday to announce it. Does he think this is bringing more viewers. I believe it is going to be Lexie O'conner.

IMO - Hilliary is much more professional that Lexie who reminds me of nothing more than a Kewpee Doll - all fluff with NO substance.

Don't blame Don. He's just following orders fro higher up. The same higher ups that make all of the newscasts presented like we are 5 years old.

My guess would be Nicole Hart. I wish WUTR would do a morning show with Chelsea Rarrick. I firmly believe the reason WKTV phones it in is simply because they can. They put out a poor product because people don't really have another local option.

Haven't you heard, Caroline Gabel is comming to the morning spot. After she proves her skills, Donnie is gone.

Please, I hope that's not true. Caroline is a bueatiful anchor/reporter, but I just don't think she would fit in a morning show. Lexie or Nicole would be a good fit.

Caroline just does not have a very appealing voice for broadcasting. Like nails on a chalkboard. She would be a good voice for a voice over for the chipmunks.

You are right about the other two if you want more of the same. Young kids giggeling all morning. Maturity leads to respected news. WKTV lacks maturity, and it looks like the like their position.

Thought it might be Lexie, but just saw her doing a story tonight on the news, so I am going to have to go with you and say it will be Caroline. If so, I don't think I will be watching for that long. With her voice and Don's pronunciation mistakes I don't think I can take it for long. If you wikll notice, when he is announcing birthdays, or his Facebook friends, if he can't pronounce the last name he just does not say it.

It's somebody new coming in to join Don

The whole place is in a frenzy. Personnel are on notice that their positions are not secure and I wouldn't be surprised if they are structuring themselve to be sold.

Who would want to buy in the MohawK Valley lol
