Why Americans Won't Do Dirty Jobs

Full story: www.businessweek.com

Skinning, gutting, and cutting up catfish is not easy or pleasant work. No one knows this better than Randy Rhodes, president of Harvest Select, which has a processing plant in impoverished Uniontown, Ala.

The part that they always leave out of these kinds of stories is that American's won't do that kind of work for wages they can't live on and no benefits, overtime pay, workers comp, etc. Illegals will because they know the people that hire them are scum just like they are. Illegals won't report them for violation of employment laws and employers won't report them for being illegal.

How many illegal aliens have you seen working the crab boats in Alaska? How many of them have you seen doing anything other than menial, physical tasks that require no thought? As I said in another thread, I have no problem with businesses importing workers if they can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the can't find US citizens to fill the positions and as long as they import those workers within the frame work of existing law.

I have a business. Sometimes I need extra help during weekends or holidays. I never call anglosaxons to fill the position, because the answer is always the same "Sorry, I can't, I need my rest", "I had to take my dog to the park", "I have church". I call a hispanic or filipino employee, and the answer is "sure boss, give me half an hour to get my sister to take care my children, because my wife is working today and I will be there".

Then why not make them legal, sponsor them for visa's?

Deadliest Catch, Cops, Border Wars, Wild Justice (I could name more but I wont). You dont believe in any of those shows? Or is it that most of the real people on those shows are white and proves that white Americans not only do the dirty jobs but also the most dangerous jobs?

I never said they are undocumented. My point is immigrants, especially hispanics (legal or not) are not afraid to work hard and to work overtime, and especially to make sacrifice to make some extra money. But since you say so, let me tell you something, that is exactly one of the problems about the current immigration system. Once a person has been in the country illegally for only one day, that person can't get legal status, not through a relative petition, and not to a sponsorship, because they are ordered to leave the country top get their visa, and then they can't come back in 3 years (if they have been illegally for less than 6 months) or 10 years (if they have been illegally for more than 6 months).

I have a better question for you: How many illegal immigrants have you seen asking for money in the freeway's exits? It is always the white or the black man, right?

If they are documented, then there should be no problem. I'm sure most of them are well aware of the laws regarding visa's and sponsorship and those who come illegally are knowingly breaking the law. They make the choice to break the law and they have to live with the consequences.
It's a little like the kids who drop out of school because they can't wait to be out on their own and do things their way. When the reality hits them, most find that life is not what they expected and some of them go back to school and get that degree.

The illegal Immigrants who come to this nation to tend do the jobs no one will do. They tend to come from places where starvation is a possible outcome for being lazy. There is no welfare safety net for someone sick, unable or unwilling to work. They either do what needs to be done to support themselves and support their families, or they die. It’s as simple as that. When those kinds of workers immigrate to America, they bring that work ethic with them.
The United States has become a nation of slobs and beggars. People that sit around and think that no matter how bad things get the government is going to help them. They will not starve. Whether through duplicity, such as lying about a work-related injury that qualifies them for benefits, or the welfare safety net that pays a small sum that one could adequately live on if residing in rural, lower income areas, Americans know that they are unlikely to ever starve or freeze to death. For starters, if Americans believe that such jobs are "beneath them"... Maybe it means that those jobs actually are 'menial' and therefore undesirable. Isn't that why we shipped all of our manufacturing jobs to China and declared ourselves an "information economy"? Oh no wait... That was because we knew we could exploit the "work ethic" (i.e. survival instinct) of people in the developing world. Then, while we're exploiting cheap foreign labor, we can sit at our desks eating McDonald's and playing Angry Birds or chatting on Facebook before driving our SUVs home to park in our 4-car garage and spend the rest of the evening playing Wii or XBox. Which is why Americans don't want these jobs. And why should they? We are a nation of fat, lazy, stupid, image-obsessed, entertainment junkies with heads full of  cognitively dissonant contradictions, confusion, stresses and envies. Raised from the crade to expect everything and to think that we will all become rich famous beautiful and loved someday. That any one of us can be whatever we want and that anyone could become the president... No wonder half of the damned country is on antidepressants. No wonder our "work ethic" has completely gone down the crapper. All the so-called "respectable" types (lawyers, bankers and politicians) are robbing the country blind and blaming it on the lower classes for "borrowing beyond their means". Well how else are they suppose to acheive the "American Dream"? They haven't got any money because the pigs stole it all and shipped all the jobs overseas. Meanwhile, the only job a PhD in Computer Science can get half the time is flipping burgers at the local franchise of (fill in lame corporate eatery here) because cheap Indian coders are kicking the collective crap out of us. This guy spent 10 years in school learning how to do complex data-visualizations and people wonder why he thinks serving snacks is beneath him. It's beneath anyone.

Everytime I walk in downtown area of any American city, I am constantly approached by the poor looking for a handout ("Spare change for a cup of coffee?" "Spare change for a bite to eat?" "Spare change for a beer?"). Living and working in downtown Santa Cruz, I am confronted each and every day by apparently healthy able-bodied young men wanting a handout.
In Mexican cities, there are more poor than in American cities. However, in Mexico, it is rare to be asked for a handout! Don't get me wrong, the Mexican poor are quite skilled at separating you from your spare change, but they do it by selling you things: jewelry, souvenirs, etc. Even the small children sell chicklets chewing gum in exchange for spare change. Others offer to shine your shoes or provide some other service. However, it is quite rare to be asked for a handout in Mexico. Moral of the story? It is a myth in America that Mexicans want a free ride. The Mexican poor, in stark contrast to the American poor, hold an unquestioned assumption that they have to earn their way, and nearly always offer something in exchange for what they need.

with other words this won't happen ever, you know why? If you limit the welfare the USA would become third world country, our politicians really don't want that... Angry mob in the millions... And growing, and keep growing... When I see all the lazy leeches on welfare, it makes me sick. If you want a prosperous America, cut off all entitlements except for seniors and disabled. Outsource our prison systems to mexico, and start to export our lazy bums to third world country. I'm sick and tired of lazy gluttonous Americans bitching about immigrants "taking" our jobs. It's not like they can literally come to America, ambush us in the parking lot and take our jobs. If you lose your job to an immigrant, it's probably because he or she was willing to work harder for less money. Don't want to pay them full wages? Then don't hire them. If they do equal work, then they deserve equal pay. It's just that simple, and I'm not going to sit back like every other racist piece of sh1t bitching about having to work harder because there's a little competition for my job, immigrant or otherwise. I know I can do my job better than anyone, and if an immigrant thinks he can do a better job than I can, I welcome him to try.
What kind of chicken sh1t pussssy is afraid of competition? Can't get a job because you lost out to an immigrant? Well TOUGH SH1T. Nobody wants to pay you for your half-assed work if someone else can do it better. That's what America is all about. I'll be damned if I'm going to let any more jackassses sully the reputation of hard working Americans who are willing to work just as hard as anyone else with or without competition. If you can't cut it, then the people with money will pay it to someone else who can. Maybe if all you people bitching weren't such lazy, pathetic, blood sucking leeches, you'd get off of your dead asss and work HARDER to do a better job. Get some balls people. If you're too chicken shit and you can't cut it, then maybe it's you who doesn't deserve to live in America. Not the immigrants.

If Americans weren't so fat and lazy, this wouldn't be an issue. Are there American people who would be willing to come pick these crops? Sure. But, the farmer will have to pay them more, they will work very slow, call out sick a lot more, and the turnover rate would be at least triple due to the loser, meth addicted workers constantly getting fired.

Do a little lateral thinking today and it will work wonders. Don't feel hidebound because you're supposed to do things in a certain way, because this is a great opportunity to try a different approach for a change. Even so, you may have to play down your unorthodox technique when talking to anyone who sticks rigidly to convention.
