Now Now! You have a few points. HORRIBLE fishing yes! I grew up there 20 yrs at the lake and every year I rent a cottage for a night and enjoy it to its fullest. It has changed throughout the years. When I was little I could remember tons of bluegill and sunfish and even perch, but the fish commission back in the early 90's or possibly even before that started netting fish and taking them out of the lake, since then fishing is horrible in C. lake. I believe that there are mammoth fish in that lake eating all the smaller ones. Chuck Lipchick closed down the arcarde to market on RV camping for the elderly, good for him bad for families! No entertainment for children anymore! Todd at pier 66 rents out crappy pontoons for decent money to survive, Sally sold the store and took out all arcade games, for good reason. Peggy Lloyd still rents out cottages for a great rate, as long as you don't mind the 70's feel. If you are a couple, no children The lake is a great getaway, plenty of bars that still survive (go figure)! I definetly wouldn't say drain it though, I would miss it to much. No stadium could ever replace all the years of memories. They need more then a skating rink and putt putt to put C. Lake back on the map. I say close a few of the bars down, stock the lake for fishing, and bring back some of the family fun. That place used to be a "hot spot" growing up, what happend. Maybe, I just got older!

O,I understand it used to be a hell of a hot spot and truth be told it aint that bad,i mean we camp there and its a good getaway,i just wish the fishing was better, but i hear many stories how that was the place to be at one time. and i think you may be wrong its like one of only two natural lakes in pa.

I re-read that If it is 1 of only 2, wouldnt that still make it the second largest, if the other one was bigger?

I used to spend a couple of weeks every summer on a farm in Lincolnville. Would walk to Canadohta for teen dances and to ride the horses. Not many cabins there at that time.

However, the Higby's do a good job to keep the price down so that not so well to do families have a place to go as well. You aren't going to find that cheap of a price witht he amount of ground that you get with your spot. My lot is 25 x 30! Unheard of for a campground!!

THE HIGBYS ARE NOT EXACTLY THE FRIENDLIEST PEOPLE EITHER, ive been there and what a dump that is,as the saying goes, you get what you pay for!cripes, you cant even make toast without the whole campground going black.i could go on and on but whats the use, everyone feels differently.

I too grew up in the Canadohta Lake area. Union City to be exact, but spent most of my time at the Lake. It was a blast when I was a kid. The arcade....man, the good times we had there. The best putter golf course around! Can't count how many miles I put on that old skating rink either! Not to mention sneaking out of the rink to go to the Lake. Sally's store was pretty neat as well. My kids, although they aren't from PA, know all about the "free beach"! They've been there and love it whenever we are home visiting their grandparents. Canadohta Lake is a great place and I hold it dear to my heart!
