Has anyone ever known someone hired into a place that has a Union and didn't want to join that Union?

I have. This specific union was a joke. They didn't do a damn thing for the workers, only collected dues.

I'd like to know the point of this? There are already laws in place to keep you from being forced to join a union. If you're already protected, what is the true purpose of right to work?

Don't get me wrong.. I'm pro-union in most places. There are laws inplace to protect you, however a union offers even more security, assuming it's a good union.

right to work states have lower wages, spend less money on education, have far worse benefits for employees. this is just a way for the ceo's to make more money.

If in a skilled labor, elecrical, plumber, carpenter and such can protect a person from getting hurt on the job. They have continuing education, and will say no if something is unsafe. I have never worked a union job, because my career choice really don't offer it. But if you are wanting drive a truck, don't apply at a place that is Teamster ran.. it is that simple.

the only people who need a union is the union officials , they have brainwashed so many people, they need it to keep their jobs, all a union does is cost a company a hell of a lot of money and help keep the idiots working when they should be fired, and how many places are still around with unions, go figure

Unions are a joke!! I can see where they were useful in the past, but we don't need them anymore. All they do is suck money from both the worker and company. Most unions today are totally worthless.

You are so full of it. Illinios is run by unions the taxes are 43%. Businesses are moving out like crazy. The unemployment rate is 11.5%(as of yesterday) The State is going bankrupt b/c of the unions but you won't hear that on news because they want all the sheeple to stay asleep! A job is better than NO job and I bet the unemployed in Illinois right now would take anything!

EPI is the Economic Policy Institute and is a non profit, non partisan "think tank". So they don't side with anyone but the facts.

Indiana used to be a right to work state. When Westinghouse was still in town you didn't have to join the union, but they had to represent you if you had a problem and they got the same wages and benefits that the union members got.

The 43% you are quoting is the corporate tax rate increase percentage which now is now 9.5%,(consisting of two taxes on corporate income at rates of 7.0% and 2.5%).

The unemployment rate as of the end of December is 9.8%, the second consecutive month with a drop in numbers. I don't believe official numbers are released on a daily or weekly basis but rather after the end of the month.

Are you grouping public and private unions in Illinois together? If so, Illinois isn't in the top ten of states having the strongest unions.

I won't deny the impact of public unions on the costs to states, but I think you're making blanket statements.

Indiana has never been a right to work state. Only 22 states have ever been RTW states, since the 1940's.

Agreed. It is a fire at will state though lol. Indiana is one of the many states that favor the employer, and screw the employee over.
