Hey, I thought the BOS was anti-growth and anti-business. Not only did they approve this grant, but they did it for one of the few people who was willing to say he was in favor of Measure A. He was one of the small band of local shills that kept coming to the Board to complain about their shabby treatment of DDR. Lucky for him the Board is not as petty and vindictive as many of the pro-A posters here. The ones that are going to boycott all the local businesses just because they lost the election.

Not anti business just anti good business. Protect the local guys from all outside competition to save the county from corporate tycoons while propping up the failing local corporation with public money. The county is already spending the proceeds from this program before they even have the money so what will be the outcome if the mill fails anyway. Saw mills are failing all over the country since there is currently no demand with no expectation of a come back for at least two more years. |
So why not help the mills over the rough spot so they can provide jobs now and in the future? We also get more money as a community if the logs can be milled here instead of being trucked down the road. But you sound like a Measure A supporter who thinks we should be a colony that has our assets extracted from us and shipped to distant places. I would rather keep our money circulating locally. PS:DDR was not a good business. They weren't going to build anything anyway and if they had it would have been even worse. |

Wow... doesn't seem like that long ago that MC was forcing the lumber industry out of the county. What changed?
Wake up from your slumber, Ukiah Mom. Nobody "forced" the lumber industry out of the county. They cut every tree standing and them left. Cut and run, remember? They cut themselves out of a job with no concern for the environment, the community or the workers. Now we have a chance to do it sustainably. |

Look at AIG it is never a good idea to use pubilc money to prevent private company's from failing.
They fallied on the open market! It is either good they failed or capitalism is totally F'ed system. |

Where does the county think that the state is going to get the money to give them? The state and the federal govt. are past broke. At least the money that they show on one set of books. The offshore money is a different story.
The county needs to delve into its second set of books. |

Jabba thinks that School Street is the dynamic economic engine that can propel the world into economic prosperity, and end war, and foster world peace, while supporting Rastafarian causes on the planet Zoloft.
Excuse me? You have no idea what you are talking about Or should I say where have you been? It is the enviromentalists my friend that have shut us down |
You are absolutely correct. It was part of a business plan: liquidate their assets (trees), close their facilities and concentrate on another part of the country. All to maximize profits. Only a fool or a liar would fail to recognize that fact. |
There is more timber volume per acre than there has been in decades. Jackson State Forest has been shut down due to a lawsuit by the intrepid nuclear holocaust software designer, Vince Taylor, taking 50,000 acres of prime timberland out of production for the last 10 years..I agree...the spotted owl shut down logging...and the owls are more prolific than ever, refuting Earth First's assumption that logging disturbs their habitat. Cherney is a drug addict, not a forestry expert. Him and Judi were a dog and pony show. Save Agwood Lumber! |
The more you try to help save the local business with public money the more vested interest you get in a business that could not make it on its own. What will be the counties next action to protect their vested interest? Do you think the county will ever issue a permit for a competing company if they have a financial stake in the Agwood mill? PS: Currently the market for forest products is in the toilet and a turnaround is not expected for several years. |
Your solution is do nothing, great, that will really help. Why not help the mills over the rough spot so they can provide jobs now and in the future? We also get more money as a community if the logs can be milled here instead of being trucked down the road. But you sound like a Measure A supporter who thinks we should be a colony that has our assets extracted from us and shipped to distant places. I would rather keep our money circulating locally. And why aren't you equally troubled with the 400 million dollar public money bailout of DDR? I didn't hear you complaining that DDR was going to use our money to build the Masonite site. Another trait of you right wing anti-government types is that most of you are major hypocrites. |
No that would be the environmentalists. |
