I thought I would start this thread on Agriculture in California , since I have friends in the Springfield Area.
First of all we grow a lot of rice and vegtables and are big producers of dairy products. W also grow a lot of fruit , the kind that grows on trees. Now the situation for all this is not good. We are in a drought situation, but have recently got some rain. This has helped some but the farmers are being told they may not get any Federal Water this year. This means there will be less grain grown here and som dairy farmers may sell of their cattle. Increase the amount of cattle on the market. A lot of is grown and that may be all right because it is usualy cut before the rains stops in May and we have a good looking hay crop at this time. The rain did help some with the rice, because some of the guys have already planted it and this storm flooded the rice fields. That helped. The thing about all this is we are still going to be rationing water this year and that means less food will be grown out here. Our farmers have to have the water to produce the food people eat; http://www.topix.com/forum/sacramento/TV6HK3F... The people in Southern Cal want it for their swimming pools. We want it to grow food. |

The fight for water goes on in California;
http://www.appeal-democrat.com/news/farmland_... Bottom line is without water we can`t grow rice. We sell rice as an export and for local consumption. If we don`r grow it we can`t sell it. You won`t have it. It is that simple. |
