I hope Paulson runs again. It's time to clean house at city hall. Time to get rid of blackmailers, kiss ups, hangers on, relatives, and "close, dear friendsof the mayor."

I heard there is a group forming to draft Bob Paulson to run for mayor of Solon. I'll provide more details as I get them. Solon needs new leadership and Bob Paulson is just the guy for the job.

You better draft Paulson fast as I hear others are looking at him too. The Steelers need a new cornerback and nobody bird dogs receivers like he does.

For the record, I've never had the pleasure to meet Bob Paulson. I've seen him speak at council meetings and I've read his letters in the paper. I've also now talked to a number of folks that I respect who remember his leadership from the old days.

My conversion to being a Paulson supporter is recent. I, like most people I talk to, realize that Patton is poor excuse for a mayor and they advocate leadership change. Paulson is the obvious choice. Some may disagree with me on that. But nobody with an ounce of intelligence can disagree that leaving Patton is office is mistake.

Cheers.

Check out www.solonjoe.com and tell me I'm wrong.

Today, March 6th, Bob Paulson threw his hat into the ring for the mayoral race in Solon, Ohio. I think Bob Paulson will make an outstanding Mayor. His knowledge of City issues and past mayoral experience make Paulson the ideal choice. Check out the full Paulson press release at www.solonjoe.com

His record was cleared after a judge determined it was a political witch hunt. I too had that concern until I checked the facts.
But help me out with this little math problem.
I’m sure we’ve got wise readers that can steer me in the right direction. This is a story problem. Solve it with me and suggest a moral, if you will.
Let’s say I earned $187 in 2008 by renting 75 pieces of equipment that look a lot like, I don’t know, say golf carts. I leased the equipment for $51 a year, which covered insurance, maintenance, depreciation and miscellaneous items.
Are you with me so far?
Revenue of $187 minus a cost of $51 for a tidy little profit of $136 a year.
Now I can do the same thing in 2009 or I can get rid of the “expense” by having the taxpayers buy all the equipment for $320.
At the end for five years, I get to sell the equipment. Crossing my fingers behind my back, I think I’ll get $150. I’m pretty confident of that. I'm quite the businessman. So my real cost a year is $320 upfront minus the $150 I’ll get back at the end-- or just $170.
Divide the $170 dollars by five years of use and I’m only paying $34 dollars a year!!
$34 in cost vs.$51 in cost. It looks like I’m way ahead if I buy, right? And I’m getting brand new equipment rather than using my old lease.
But I have to account for the cost of money.
Let’s say I can get money at the super-duper Briar Hill rate of 2.5%!!(Please assume the Briar Hill bank has no liquidity problems for the time being.)
What does that come out to?$320 times 2.5% equals $8 a year.
I’m still ahead right?$51 leasing versus $42 buying including the cost of money at the Briar Hill bank rate. And I get brand spanking new golf carts-- I mean equipment...
But I suppose it might cost me something to maintain the equipment? Let’s just say an owners buyers guide, it suggested you budget .40 to. 50 per vehicle every 2 years.
(If the item were for example a “golf cart”, you would need to multiple everything in this story problem by $1000. Search the internet for “Maintenance cost on a golf cart” to find sources of this suggested budget. I’m trying to be fair.)
What does work out to?(Take the .45 cent average for every 2 years and we’re looking at 5 years. Lets convert this into a yearly cost:.45 divided by 2 years equals .225 per vehicle per year. Multiply that times 75 vehicles and I get $16.875.
Let’s add it up.$34 a year for depreciation,$8 for cost of money at the Briar Hill rate, and $17 a year maintenance.
Why that is $59!!!!
Wait!! This is more expensive now:$51 vs.$59. How can leasing be cheaper than buying? It’s not that way when I buy a car!?
Ah, yes. But we’re leasing a used “car” vs. buying a brand new “car”. A used car lease should be cheaper than a new car lease, no?
Oh, and there are other costs: Take Insurance as an example: My lease agreement includes the insurance, but if I “buy outright” I have to get my own insurance.
But since I’m a city and I’m entitled to a legal concept called “sovereign insanity.” I can pretend this is no additional cost. My umbrella insanity policy covers everything.
Finally, I’m pretty sure I’ll need 75 “items” this year. 75 is the maximum I can use at any one time-- though I might be able to squeak by on 70 this year. Heck, if it’s slow, 65. I’ll get a tiny bit less revenue but then my costs would only be 87%. Sorry, I digress.
But I’m bullish on my business since I’ve never run this business before, so I’ll assume I’ll need the maximum this year. What the heck! Let’s get the maximum for the next 5 years. Let's lock it in!
I work for the city so I always buy the maximum, unless it is salt.
Question to you dear reader? What are the mistakes in the above? Can I, for instance, really get my cost of money at the Briar Hill rate?
And what’s the moral?
One moral is don’t vote for Patton or Drucker or Kraus if you want fiscal comon sense. Vote for Paulson.

I can argue samantics with you for days, he facts are a jury of his peer's convicted him. And you need to check your fact's. It was the most corrupt and unable govener that Ohio has every that expunged his record. So lets see, a corrupt outgoing republican govener and a corrupt republican mayor. The only thing that I can agree with is that ALL of our counsilpersons need to go. I don't care how they take care of Brial Holl Lake it just needs to be taken care of. Way back in the 60 when they tried to get ride of BriarHill lake my house flodded with 7' feet of water. Anybody can make the numbers look any way that they wan't how was it that they got away with the deer killing thing. And you are right don't vote for Patton, Drucker or Kruse but also don't vote for Paulson. You could not have worked for the city for very long, because if you did you would know what a corrupt politian Paulson is. I mean for god sake until the FBI told him that they ahd his wife dead to rights and going to jail unless he confessed to telling her to do it, he was denying the whole thing. And since you did all this research on him did you find out about what he did before he came to and was Solon's mayor. And why was it that he did not even live in Solon at the time of his first election? If you think that it would be such a good thig to work for him then you should go to work for the county they also have alot more corrupt poitians that you can work for?

And the bottom line is that "He is a convicted felon and by the letter of the law he CAN NOT run for public office."

Since he's running and he'll be on the ballot, that must prove his conviction was ex-punged. It has. You can check the public record.

But hey, you don't like him. That's fine. Different strokes for different folks. I'm convinced Patton is a do-nothing and by my reckoning I've found the best do-something candidate to unseat him. I too wasn't crazy about Paulson at first and it took long while before I warmed up to him. But you don't need to agree.(Just don't vote for Patton. I am trying to get my neighbor to run his cat, Mr. Whiskers, as a back up candidate.)

And sorry to hear about your flooding.

Federal court records show a case called USA v. Robert A. Paulson, N.D. Ohio Case No. 1:98-cr-00076-DCN. Is that the felony conviction mentioned above? If so, there was no jury -- he pleaded guilty to felony tax fraud and got probation.

He needs to address this issue up front or he can't win.
