I feel badly for the newly trained state troopers who are being laid off. What a shame! I agree that public safety will definitely be compromised by this.

One thing I want to say: Stop blaming this problem on illegal immigration. Although it is a problem, I don't believe that any of these MSP jobs are going to be taken over by illegal immigrants. The causes of this current economic crisis are varied and complex, and I'm not going to pretend that I know all the answers. However,
I think to say, as some people on this forum have,
that this problem is due to illegal immigrants and we just need to build the wall to keep them from coming in, is very oversimplistic as well as unrealistic.
The fact is that many communities, whether they admit it or not, depend upon the labor of migrant workers who happen to be here illegally.
Now, that's not to say that we should just allow
people to enter the U.S. illegally, and yes we do need to enforce our borders (North, also) but the fact that migrant workers have been coming to the U.S. for decades is recognized in other parts of the world as a labor/economic phenomenon. Here in the U.S., though, we blame these people for all of our problems. Yes, we need to deal with illegal immigration (and companies that hire illegally) but it is not the source of all of our problems.

Sounds like someone was going to be a state cop and got canned? Your right, the problem isn't illegal immigration here... we are in michigan. The problem is there are TOO many cops. Have you ever been to east lansing? Undercover, state, campus, city... I sometimes see 10 cops just going to the store to buy milk... I'm glad they are cutting back.

Am I understanding this all right? The State Police were offered a deal, 10 furlow days or layoffs and they DECIDED layoffs? I know that I work in a small office and I would gladly take 10 unpaid days off to save the jobs of my co-workers (new hires included).

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Cancer

You've had enough time to yourself lately. This is a day to focus on family, with all the good and bad that that brings. Crabs would much rather be at the top of the tree than down near the roots, but that's life. You might be smart when it comes to matters of the heart, but you don't know it all quite yet.
