"...with a big increase in 3- and 4-year-old developmentally delayed children."

Milk. It doesn't do a body good.

Got milk? Get stupid.

What the heck are 3- and 4-year olds doing in schools anyway? At this age, they should be being taught by their parents or private caretakers about good behavior, basic hygiene and speech, particulary if they're "developmentally disabled." This is just a very costly daycare program shouldered by the dwindling number of taxpayers who can't expect to see any returns on their dollars for such nonsense.

They are headstart programs for economically disadvantaged families - the GISD district is one of the poorest if not the poorest in the state of New Mexico.

The more you can do with and for very young children with developmental delays education wise, the more they are able to increase their abilities to function at a near normal level. These windows of opportunity close as the child gets older and so time and effort spent with a child whose synapses are still flexible and making connections, the better end result you are going to have.

So long term, it is a great deal cheaper to invest money in people when they are young children than having to institutionalize them at state expense for a lifetime of care.

"Headstart Programs" = Taxpayer-financed daycare
"Disadvantaged Families" = Groups of persons who take but don't give
"GISD...poorest in the state" = Huge taxpayer liability AND extraordinarily high dropout rates = millions of tax dollars purely going to waste.

What a rosy picture you paint...so much so that the fumes have clearly affected your rationality and realism.

Idealist supreme. Take a look at the ever-growing billions of dollars spent on education and the ever-growing number of dropouts nationwide who end up on the public dole anyway. This type of "investment" is one we can do without, thank you.

Yeah don't you love America! I pay taxes so that disadvantaged people can progress. I am not overly concerned as to where my taxes go - because even if I bitched moaned and groaned about it I would still have to pay them. So I say live and let live. I don't mind giving up some of my money for others. Who cares? Money is money - easy come easy go.

Daily Horoscope for December 15

Taurus

Are you in listening mode today? Let's hope so because someone wants to bend your ear and they're hoping that you can spare the time and energy for them. Although your first instincts may tell you to give them plenty of advice, try to stop yourself volunteering it unless it's asked for. Even then, you may get the sense that you're really being asked to listen, not talk.
