I believe the writer/editor used the wrong term to describe the actions of the woman. It went beyond a spanking when bruises were left. I have spanked/smacked my childrens rear end and never left bruising. Isn't there a difference in a spanking and a beating?

well I bruise easily so when I got spanked I always bruised but I turned out okay and my cousin who was NEVER whipped killed someone so tell me spanking is a bad thing? NOT

Still if they were bruising on the face, that is a beating.
