Parents: Talk to your children when they are young about the consequences of riding in a car with a drinking driver. You can die! Don't drink and drive, and don't drink and ride!

Cody despite this ridiculously light sentance, may you time to think and comprehend what you did, the pain and distruction you caused these families and our community. Your actions forever changed us. Unlike when you were dishonorably dischared from the marines, you won't be welcome back to ferndale when you're released from prison. The jury may have bought your lies & excuses, your community didn't. To those of you who were on the jury, pray that when he's released your loved ones aren't on the road when cody baker is behind the wheel. God protect us all from his ongoing recless behavior.

I absolutely cannot believe this. You have ruined many lives Baker, I hope you realize this. It will be a cold day when you get "home" and you wont be greeted with open arms. Rot in hell.

Don't worry Cody, we still love you....These people need to think about the times that they have gotten behind the wheel of a car after they have been drinking, even if only one drink. They were just lucky that something this horrible didn't happen to them. Hang in There Cody!!!!!

Cody blamed the ferndale community for their acceptance of drinking & driving....well "love Ya', i don't drink & drink and don't find it acceptable behavior.
Cody is a coward. He backed out of a plea agreement just days before the trial. He wasn't many enough spare the families more grief. While the families sat in that courtroom and had to hear how their children died and look at pictures of their dead children, Cody wasn't man enough to look at what he did to them.(Poor Cody, had to close his eyes.)I don't wish for Cody to rot in hell, I wish for him to have a heart, to have courage and to show remorse....and to move far far away when he's released.

You think Cody dosn't have a heart??? He realizes what he did and wanted to die that same day. He knows he was wrong and is now doing his time. The four that died were his friends and our friends and he will live with that the rest of his life. We love you Cody and only your true friends will be here for you when you come home.

i am really torn here. on one hand i do not feel that this sentence is strong enough considering what happened that night. on the other hand, i do not have feel the ill-will and hatred toward cody like most posters clearly do. i lost 4 friends that night (3 of the passengers who were killed and cody to prison), and another life was lost of a person i didn't know, but i've heard wonderful things about. i think a lot of poor choices were made that night and even after (by many people, those directly invovled and others who weren't). All in all, this was a very sad occurance, a tragedy in my community that will never be forgotten. i am glad that, regardless of the outcome, it is over, so maybe the families can try to move forward with their lives and those who lost theirs may finally rest in peace.

My heart goes out to the 3 families that poured their hearts out today or have found a means to move on. As for the 4th, I'm sorry you have doomed yourself to a life of misery. I feel for your sons.

Prop 9 gave families of victims additional rights to be informed and give input at parole hearings.

Its shameful that this convicted felon will cause the victim's families additional pain attending hearings to preserve the memories of their loved ones.

It's hard to know what the right sentence would have been. Drinking and driving is just a stupid thing to do. Period. It was also stupid to get into a car where the driver was drunk. That doesn't mean I don't regret the lives lost, nor do I think Baker should have gotten off scott free, but let's get real folks. More than one person made a grave mistake here. I hope there is a lesson learned for everyone. DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE, and never get into a car if the driver is drunk. Period.

I knew one of the victims for a long time. She was the best person i have ever known and now she is gone. Cody deserves a lot more than what he got, and i am sure that God will be the one who will make cody pay for what he did, since the legal system cant seem to do so. Payback is a bitch.

I think the greatest error here was not learning from his previous dui. That should have been a wake up call. Instead it was a license to kill.
He better not come back to Ferndale
