What do you think about the story in the Milan paper? What cuts should be made?

@Bean Counter....

The city could start by shopping for cheaper health insurance for their employees.

My fear is that if our tax rate continues to increase, it's going to become too expensive for people to afford to live here.

I don't think the answer to balacing the budget lies simply with tax hikes. We need more business to move into Milan. The city would collect far more in tax revenue from businesses than it ever will from it's citizens.

I think the city should promote growth and development. Seems like the city departments don't encourage or work with that. There are plenty of cuts that could be made.

What are some new ideas that can offset the extra costs....

Like recycling... you know if they city started picking up recyclables they could sell glass/cans/etc to a recycling company.

The city should also post any volunteer opportunities. Volunteers can save us lots of money!

Also, they should put one of those radars in like Medina has! They make big bucks off of that! And it will free up the police to not sit around all the time, but instead find all these aholes that break into local businesses!

Milan does NOT need speed cameras! I hope we as a city are above that!

Why?? If we are running low on our budget, would you rather everyone's property taxes increase over 20%?? Why punish the people who work hard and obey the law!?

Medina makes prob half a million dollars a year off of that thing!

Plus it would give the police more time to actually POLICE. There have been breakins and murders and drive by shootings that need to be stopped!!

I think they should combine some heads of departments. Milan doesn't have much building growth or development so that position could be filled using the mayor and street department. If it was a private business, one person could handle both tasks.

if Medina makes half a million a year off speed enforcing cameras then the company that owns the cameras makes 5 times that much. That is money that families. could use to buy food and other needs. I do not spend money in Medina due to their cameras. Same thing goes for Bradford. When they install their speed cameras I will not support them in any way.

Someone ask a few employees what they think about being forced into being paid every 2 weeks instead of weekly like they are accustomed to,

Milan should move the city limits more toward Jackson. Ever really pay attention to the crooked line the city limits follow. it goes around evey house and property owned by the Parkins, Fitzgeralds, etc. Wonder why. Could it be that alderman of the past knew tha the Milan paper controls elections in Milan. they knew to be supported in the paper, they had to protect certain people. A lot of tax dollars are lost from 187 out to the overhead bridge. I believe that is the way to increase taxes.

Well, a speeding ticket is a small price to pay for putting other families in danger by taking risks on the road. If you do the crime you gotta pay the bill!

I think it is an excellent way to bring revenue in. Over 20% of a tax increase will also put A LOT of families at a bigger financially struggle than the few that refuse to obey the laws.

I believe those who choose to speed or drive recklessly will even if there are cameras! The ones who will be caught the most are the ones who will only be going a few MPH over the limit and are etheir on their way to or from work, or people passing through our town and are not aware of the cameras. We have a very competent police force and they do their jib without the help of speed traps.

Cameras seem to be the best answer! Happy city employees, happy school board, happy homeowners, happy mayor, happy police department, unhappy speeders. Looks like the majority wins!

The cameras usually only ticket you if you go 10 over... so if you stay within reason of the speed limit than you should be fine.

Bi-weekly would be twice weekly! I really doubt anyone would be getting paid twice a week!

I believe the poster was meaning every 2 weeks....i agree they should file a petition,,,it's hard to get use to getting paid every 2 weeks when your'e use to every week,,,it's just not right putting there employees in that situation.
