I and two other couples visited Jamesport toady , for the first time. I was deeply disturbed by the treatment and condition of the buggy horses I saw.

They were being trotted HARD
for miles and miles and miles. They were lined up, tied to a hitching post outside the church, many of them covered in white lather. I cannot imagine being worked like that, and then made to stand and stiffen up. The flies were swarming their sweat soaked bodies. You could hear them stomping all of their hooves against the pavement trying to keep the biting flies off of their legs. Some of the horses were thin....a few were VERY thin, with ribs and hip bones protruding. We were stopped on a street, when a buggy came so fast around a corner, that the wheel lifted off the ground on one side. We thought it was going to go over on its side. The driver was a teenaged boy. My feelings were that the horse were being treated as cars....not living breathing creatures. Very, very disturbing. I cannot imagine that any of this is legal and allowed just because they are Amish?
I have owned horses all of my life, and I would never ever treat one of mine like that. And no, I did not see how each and every horse was being treated....but I saw enough to know what the community allows. I am sorry I went there, and I will never go back.
