Terrible to hear. Glad the guy who was hit was not badly hurt.

Distracted driving (again)? I'm sure the cell phone will tell the story. As did the phone of the 16 year old who destroyed Lacey Picard's life so she could play with her phone downloading music rather than watch the road.

I venture to say that the kid destroyed her own life as well. And it's apples and oranges to me. A 16 year old child vs. a 32 year old aggressive driver. Cut the young girl some slack.

It's apples and oranges to compare how Lacey's life is destroyed versus the teen's life is destroyed, would you venture to say.

And I didn't attack the kid either, I simply stated a fact. She was playing with her phone according to the report on the radio yesterday after charges were finally filed (The Park Record is a bit slow on this one).

I think there's a good chance that the drive on I-80 was looking down at his phone while speeding up the canyon, hence hitting the other car. The two cases are apples/apples from that standpoint.

Whether the teen should be held to a lower standard than a 32-year old is a whole other debate.

I came over the summit moments after this accident. There were about 6 cars on the right side of the road and the Subaru was alone on the left. I drive that canyon almost twice a day down & back. There have been many times I've seen or dealt with aggressive drivers going way too fast, following way to close, & yes, on the cell phone smoking a cigarette! My number 1 complaint...THE FAST LANE IS FOR GOING FASTER THAN THE REST OF TRAFFIC!!! ESPECIALLY IN BAD WEATHER PLEASE DO NOT THINK ITS OKAY TO BE IN THE FAR LEFT LANE GOING 10 MPH WITH YOUR FLASHERS ON & THERE IS 4 INCHES OF SNOW ON THE ROAD!! I saw this 3 times last winter and it nearly caused a pile up the first time. Bottom line is Parley's Canyon is one of the most dangerous stretches of highway in the nation, we need to remember that fact no matter how often we go up or down "the hill". USE YOUR HEADS PEOPLE!! It's not a race the winning is worth dying or killing for. Your family wants you to arrive alive more than caring your ten minutes later than usual.
BY THE WAY...."the 16 year old who destroyed Lacey Picard's life so she could play with her phone downloading music rather than watch the road." sounds like an attack to me, & I find your cavalier suppositions rather in poor taste . My son is 16; there is zero chance of him getting his license yet. 16 is a baby still & too young to have free unsupervised access to a vehicle. My son will be lucky if I let him have adult driving privileges before he legally is an adult. He's a good kid, just not observant or cautious enough to be a safe driver. I don't know ANY 16 y.o.'s that are.
Why is the world in such a dang hurry for anyway? I mean really!

Guy drove a mazda mx-3, nuff said right there. You dont usually buy that car unless you are a speed demon, reckless driver, and probably raging a-hole who belongs in LA. Too bad he had to die but its by his own hand. I always see people speeding up parleys canyon in the left lane I guess it is a challenge to them to show off to others how more expensive and powerful their vehicles are when going uphill. Probably compensating for other deficiencies like in their pants

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Virgo

You're feeling restless and need to introduce as much variety into your day as possible. However, you'll want this to be on your own terms, and you certainly won't like it if plans are changed without your consent or you feel you've lost control of the situation. Try to take everything in your stride, otherwise you'll end up feeling exhausted and frazzled.
