Johnson and Johnson, owning Pfizer, the makers of Chantix and Nicoderm, fund the bans through their Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1E1-RWJohnsnF... Many tax exempt political action committees (charities?) received millions to lobby for smoking bans from the RWJ Foundation. These bans are nothing but clever marketing strategy, with lots of highly publicized "sky is falling" hype. Tobacco control funding sources for "social change" to handle the "tobacco problem" http://www.rwjf.org/pr/product.jsp... Here are their tax exempt Political Action Committees. http://www.no-smoke.org/pdf/CIA_Fundamentals.... Now they are being given grants to enforce their bans, admitting that bans don't help business. http://www.rwjf.org/applications/solicited/cf... The bans are a resounding success, for Pfizer. http://www.emoneydaily.com/pfizer-nysepfe-dem...

Thank goodness. Why should anyone have to share toxic poison from someone else smoking next door. We need more restrictions like this so we nons may enjoy our outdoor patios and yards.

Experience is showing that once the ban lobbyists find gullible lawmakers and get a foot in the door, there's no stopping them. They are instructed to keep returning every year until ALL exemptions are gone. California, where these bans started, has succeeded in getting bans in private residences in some areas. Now that the Pandoras Box has been opened, it's only a matter of time. Next year, they'll return as the "coalition for smoke free ----------fill in the blank)" patois, casinos, homes, or whatever they get a whim to do. Here are their instructions and the tax exempt political action committees sponsoring the bans for the RWJ Foundation. The future patio ban is on page seven as the "inside-out" provision. You may need to CTRL and scroll to enlarge it. www.no-smoke.org/pdf/CIA_Fundamentals.pdf

They are taking advantage of the poor little tobacco industry by suggesting approaches that might actually result in FUNCTIONING smoking regulations when the tobacco industry has NOTHING in the way of an organized approach to PREVENTING such regulations from happening. BTW, here is the intro paragraph for the page, before the panel of public health organizations like the ALA, AHA, ACS, and the like who worked out the suggestions provided in the text. "FUNDAMENTALS OF SMOKEFREE WORKPLACE LAWS The following national partners have agreed to these fundamental principles, in hopes that this document will help guide and maximize the impact of efforts to increase the number of workers and residents in the United States who are protected from secondhand smoke in workplaces and public places:"

What I do in my own house or on my own property is MY business, not anyone else's. Next they are going to outlaw sex with my wife or boyfriend because some may think that it is "gross and should be forbidden". Where are we going to stop these stupid a-holes from telling us what we should be able to do or not do?

One of these days, will you show us a link to something combining data on how much J&J spends advertising these products each year, how much J&J gives to RWJF each year, what the net profit from each of these products is each year, and what J&J's total net profit for a year is? It would be enlightening--though probably good reason for you to just shut your flap--to see just how relevant income from the products is in comparison to the company's bottom line, and how significant that profit margin is in comparison to the money shelled out. I do know that Chantix doesn't account for much of Pfizer's profit, particularly since the merger with Wyeth, and Pfizer is just one of the companies in the J&J family. So how about providing some perspective one of these days, instead of just spouting your anti-regulation conspiracy theory rhetoric?

When talking about multi-family housing (apartments, condos and such), people smoking out on the patio or balcony make it impossible for nonsmoking neighbors to leave their windows open without their homes filling up with smoke, never mind enjoying sitting on their OWN patios or balconies. It's absolutely degrading to have to try holding your breath when you walk that last forty or fifty feet to your front door and try to get the key in the lock and the door opened and shut as fast as you can because of a neighbor who doesn't want the effluvium of his/her/its addiction smelling up THEIR home. Even inside their apartments they are causing SHS to build up in other peoples homes and in the corridors.

Of course, ask the general. He'll tell you no one would mind that at all if Pfizer wasn't paying them to.

Yeah, yeah, and it was the name of a song written by one or another of the Crosby Stills Nash & Young group. The ONLY way it is of concern here is if they SMOKE afterwards.

I agree with these policy. Smoking should be ban because it only does not affect the smoker but also the ones around him/her. I think we should just compensate the banning of smoking by cooking more delicious food with http://charbroilpatiogrills.com
