My husband and I are considering moving to Valley Park. We have kids and I was wondering if anyone could tell me a little more about the town and school district. Thanks

Valley Park has good areas and run-down areas. The old part of town east of 141 has some industry and is overall fairly grimey. West of 141 there are newer houses and it's more middle-income. However even the nicer areas can be close enough to the landfill and the mulch company to smell them.

The schools are good. However one of them has a drive-through liquor store across the street.

If you only need to live near Valley Park there are other areas that are a little nicer. Fenton, Manchester, Twin Oaks, Kirkwood.

I second what SomeGuy said. Valley Park has a reputation for being pretty redneck.

Valley Park is a really good town. Good neighbors, the school is GREAT. Visit their website http://www.vp.k12.mo.us/ if you want a nice house live in the west part of valley park. If you want a more cheaper house live in the east side. Not a lot happens in this quiet town-except how well the students do in school-but it is a good peaceful place to live. I've lived here nearly my whole life! Overall: great place to live.

The tax rates are very high in valley park due to the school district of about 800 kids, yes, that is the whole district not just the high school. graduating class of about 30, but a big elementary program. If the overrated school district went away, taxes would be a lot lower and property values higher and all the kids would likely go to Parkway. VP does offer alot though, great access to 141 & 44. Newer parts of town are a huge contrast to the older parts.

I agree with Barney.. School district is "HIGHLY" over-rated. If you have younger kids it is "Acceptable" however once your kids get into the upper grades, they have no opportunity for variety of classes due to the low attendance of the High School. It is also EXTREMELY small town, so either you fit-in or you don't. So don't be someone who doesn't, because everyone knows everyone. Good Luck :)--

All I gotta say is it doesnt matter if the school is "highly over rated", test scores are significant better there. Hence they are a gold star and blue ribbon school. Plus who cares if you fit in or not. Dont be a weeny and believe that, people are nice here and we care about each other new or not, rich or poor. The only reason students do poorly here and anywhere is because they dont care. If you actually cared about school its easy. 9 out of roughly 85 students got a perfect score on the geometry EOC! Vp has been able to maintain a 80% and higher of students getting proficient or advanced on the geometry EOC. While other schools fail to even receive a 70%
