I hope you know it's more than just the nuissance of lights and noise the residents are worried about? There ain't enough cops when fist fights erupt, gangstuhs show up in their g-rides, etc. PV and Pen high need to drop their football/basketball teams if they're going to do this. Not only is it snobbish, but the NAACP will find reason to call this whaycist. Oh, did I open a can of worms? Why don't these schools just drop football and basketball? The brothas are better at it anyways, and they're ones who ACTUALLY get recruited to play in college. Whiteboys should stick to what they're good at: lacrosse.

It would have been nice to have had the lights when I was at Rolling Hills High School (now Peninsula) They should put the lights in, it would help build stronger community and family ties, and give the High School students and parents a chance to experience what most other kids of the country does, which is sorely needed up there. So how would 5 or 6 Friday Nights per year affect the community that badly? What's affected it more is the way greedy over-development ruined any sense of a hometown over the years!

both schools should have stadium lights. it's only a few nights a YEAR! Narbonne HS in harbor city got them 2 years ago and it's made a great difference in community spirit around here. residents,Quit being NIMBT'S!!!!!!!!!! you knew the schools were there when you bought there!!!!!!! Schools were there first and they should have first choice before you.

If Peninsula gets lights, then PV High should also have them and good luck to that. PV High has been fighting for lights a lot longer than RH has, about 15 years longer and the same arguments apply. Noise, traffic, security, etc. What should really occur is that both high schools should have the capability of lights and night events, but those events need to be agreed upon by the school, the school board and the surrounding community each time the event is proposed. This may mean more community meetintgs and approval from the community on an ongoing basis, but it will silence the "no lights/no change" crowd and give the high schools what they desire and frankly what they need. It is very difficult to schedule other schools, even local schools for day games, which means a smaller selection of opponents. It also means less revenues for the schools to capture to support some of their programs. Lights should be on an as requested basis from these programs and then carefully deliberated and decided upon. This means the schools can raise money and put the lights in, however, the continued use will be carefully decided upon. If this approach were used, then the surrounding community would have a voice, the school could plan better and everyone would get what they wanted. But to be clear, BOTH high schools should be allowed this capability. PV High's facilities are far superior to those at Peninsula and it would be unfair for one school that has better facilities not to have the opportunity to have night events at that facility, while the other school benefits. I would also agree that there is a timing issue here, I don't think I would approve any of this until the school/school board and state school system as well as the state itself resolve their budget problems, which in looking at the idiots in Sacramento may take years and that may mean waiting a number of years longer for this to happen. I actually think it could benefit everyone, but at this time, it may not be the right time to push the initiative.

Before the lights are put in, let's BRING BACK ROLLING HILLS HIGH SCHOOL, as the facebook page states. Kevin Moen graduated from RHHS, not PVPHS.

I think everyone who knows of Kevin and other well known graduates from the high schools on the hill realize that he graduated from the then Rolling Hills High school, which brings up another point. Since there are now two active high schools on the hill again, I think Peninsula should be renamed back the Rolling Hills, having it named Peninsula High School at this point doesn't make much sense since it is no longer the only high school representing the entire peninsula any more.

This really has nothing to do with benefiting "the community". It does have to do with impact on the "community". For the schools this is about two important points; 1.) Revenue - as the schools can get more people attending (and paying) for night games than day games and 2.) Scheduling - Because of the increase in revenue capability and the advantage of schools located further from the hill traveling "off hours" to a night event vs. a day event, it means these high schools can and would have more schools to choose from when scheduling night events. The issue really is one of community impact as some will argue they moved to their homes next to these schools for the very fact that night events were few and far between. This of course is flawed logic, but the school board and other elected officials need to take these as serious considerations, after all, all these people do vote!

"Having stadium lights might be important to them during there 4 years in High School" No wonder the person is an ANONYMOUS. Are you kidding me. Those are the most important times in a young persons life. Yes, it is only 4 years, but how many (4) year students get to experience the wonderful friday night football games. I played at North Torrance and the teams on the Hill, were not our favorites, but lets be fair to those kids. Give them a chance to remember High School as it should be. The problem lies with Money. Palos Verdes is one of the poorest communities in the South Bay.....lol

Must be a slow news day. I don't know what's worse, the clowns who run Carson or the whining that always comes from the hill. It's been a close race so far this year.

I will support the lighting if they cut the hours to 9PM. In my opinion, 10PM is kind of late for most of the family with small kids and elders.

This argument has been raging since I graduated there in 1973. The arguments I used to hear was that the residents did not want night games where the lights would disrupt the lives of the people who lived below the high school. I also agree that the name should be changed back to Rolling Hills High School. I believe it was changed after Palos Verdes High School closed down for awhile, but since it has re-opened using it's old name their is no reason not to change Peninsula High back to Rolling Hills.

Time that they get with the program..... if the school doesn't have any lights to play a game at 7pm- so that all the parents that work and siblings and the rest of their fans can come... we shouldn't have to play... stuck up snob's anyway! the Light's would bring them into 2010--- And for any parent that is one of a varsity football player, cheerleader or band- it is one of the biggest honor's to watch your kids play under the light's on your own home field----

Really, they're going to get the community to raise $500,000 to put in lights??? Why don't they use that $500,000 to restore the school days that have been lost, and the teachers who have been laid off. Seems like the school should be worrying about much more important things than this luxury.
