the news article says that the police dog was sent to "apprehend" the suspect... what a load of crap. the dog was sent in to rip the guy apart but instead got his throat cut. had the dog been a human officer, the other cops would have filled the suspect full of lead. the cops here in boise idaho shoot first. there was a very similar incident here where a guy was waiving around a piece of glass from a broken window and because the cop "thought" it was a knife, was justified in killing the suspect. the man needed some mental help, not to be killed or sentenced to 5-6 years.

That police dog was dispatched as a means of non-lethal force to apprehend the suspect. Waving a knife at police officers is more than sufficient legal cause to shoot the suspect dead. I wish in this instance they had just shot him dead rather than risk the life of the police K9.
