There are lots of solar tile products out there that can be integrated into the roof of the house. BIPV solar is becoming more popular every year. Some of the systems even look like regular roof tile (although blue in color) but are integrated into the home's roof. There are tile products that are gray in color. With the right tile choice, one would not notice solar on the home's roof.

I do hope that these tiles can last the toughest of storms. It leaves a lot of questions in my mind for these solar tile to be put up there.

The tiles are made by SRS energy and sold through US tile distributors. Cheap, no, one article states that a 3KW system would cost 17,500 American dollars. DOW chemical has just announced by the end of 2011 or beginning of 2012 they will sell the Powerhouse solar shingle. No information as yet to tile cost or installed cost, but it should be cheaper than the SRS tile product.

I still want to find out about the durability of these tiles. However, I think it's great that more and more people are turning to alternative sources of energy that cause less or no damage to the world's health. Kudos!
