Who are those awful peple who are running the radio station in the ground? They ar the rudest peple I heard from here. I hope the leave soon. I miss the old station and being able to call in there OK without being cussed at and stuff.

1 My oldest memory of WTKY is from when I was around 8. My dad and I were heading home from somewhere in the middle of December in his beat-to-death Chevy truck. He turns on the radio, and begins to sing every world to this godawful old country song. I asked him how (and why) he knew the words, to which he responded: "I've been hearing this song since I was your age." If you do the math, that means he'd been exposed to The Whitamore's delightful play list for nearly 25 years at that point. Skip ahead 11 years, to my return home from my freshmen year of college. In my desperate attempts to find anything at all to do, I start tuning in to the news at 12 and 4 (I was NOT gonna wake up at 8, except for that totally awesome instrumental guitar music that they always played for what seemed like no reason at all.) If you heard the news during the final years of Mrs. Whitamore's tenure, it was... well, let's go with "unique." They say that long, dramatic pauses will help keep attention. Certainly kept me listening. And giggling. While I was getting a rise out of the quite unorthodox delivery methods of the tiny little woman I'd occasionally see in Wal-Mart, most often around the ice cream, something began to happen that I wasn't expecting. After the news went off, I didn't change the station. At first, it was because I was too busy driving, or fumbling for a CD. But as time went on, I caught myself drawn to some of the things I was hearing. Folks, I wish I could tell you some of the artists I enjoyed hearing on WTKY. However, as you may know, this information was NEVER given to the listener. I started listening more and more often, at first neglecting my extensive CD collection, then actually turning off the TV at home to listen to my mom's radio in the kitchen. I knew every word to the stuff I was hearing, including "Fancy" by Reba McEntire, which is something that I'm not exactly proud to admit. But cmon... she had one chance. She couldn't let them down. |

1 Now, I'm sorry to offend anyone, but this is gonna be outright brutal. I don't like contemporary country music. Chris Knight is the only artist I can listen to without feeling nauseous. That's besides the point, though. Country music nowadays is bad. Really, really bad. And there are dozens of stations in the southern Kentucky area that carry the format. However, and I say this without the least bit of doubt: WTKY is the worst. It's straight up pathetic. Not just because it sounds like everything else that you can hear by pressing "seek" 3 times at the most, but because I've hear some stuff on there that straight up shocked me. I'm 22; it takes a lot to make my ears perk up. Recently, I've heard songs referring to: Skoal rings, marijuana use, drunken driving, and some miserable piece of crap singing about a redneck in the White House (stand down for a second, all you anti-Obama peoples.) For a station that used to be known for it's sentimentality towards songs from yesteryear, does no one else think this is a bit extreme? We're going from nostalgia for country from the 50's to the early 90's, to garbage that rivals rap music today? And before anyone says that the same stuff can be heard on every station, I've checked out WGGC for the sole purpose of hearing some of this stuff. Hasn't happened yet. What do the long-time listeners of WTKY think about this? Have they hung in there, or turned their back on something that's, dare I say it, blasphemous of a once great radio station? I want my old fogies music back. And if anyone can tell me what song these lyrics are from, I will forever be in debt to you: "Country boy, you've got your feet in LA, but you're mind's in Tennessee." |

That's 'Country Boy' by Glen Campbell from his 1975 album 'Rhinestone Cowboy'.
Livin' in the city Ain't never been my idea of gettin' it on But the job demands that you make new plans Before your big chance is gone You get a house in the hills You're payin' everyone's bills And they tell you that you're gonna go far But in the back of my mind I hear it time after time "Is that who you really are" Country boy, you got your feet in LA But your mind's on Tennessee Lookin' back, I can remember the time When I sang my songs for free Country boy, you got your feet in LA Take a look at everything you own But now and then, my heart keeps goin' home Talkin' on the telephone Settin' up another day of people to meet You've gotta do what's right You've gotta spend the night Stayin' in touch with the street When you're surrounded by friends They say the fun never ends But I guess I'll never figure it out 'Cause in the back of my mind I hear it time after time "Is this what it's all about" Country boy, you got your feet in LA But your mind's on Tennessee Lookin' back, I can remember the time When I sang my songs for free Country boy, you got your feet in LA Take a look at everything you own But now and then, my heart keeps goin' home |

2 I still enjoy hearing some of Mr Whitamore's recorded ads. He (like Mrs Whitamore) had a distinct voice that I always associated with WTKY. I miss them both. |

i havent listened to WTKY in yrs but if ur callin the station to make a request or put something on bargin time and your bein polite why on earth would they give you a cussin do they not realize or just dont care that w/o loyal listeners that they have no business

I dont know why. Dont make good sens
I guess they dont understand what it takes to be a business perso and how to treat peple. Its a shame cause we NEEDS a good radio station here that is tryin to help. Taht new guy is better than them gals. I dont kno any of them. I just know theyr rude. |
If I were you, I would contact the FCC about the way they conduct busniess. There is no reason to be rude to the listeners. I heard they had job openings there. They can't keep help so that should tell you something. Things have not been the same since Mrs. Whittimore passed away and her brother took over. I used to enjoy listening to the station when I would come in town but noot anymore....it is a joke. What someone needs to do is buy the radio station(s) and make them worth something.

i saw that guy the one that owns it or runs it defending the placement of the new towers on one of the topix way back seems he should be more worried about the station itself because most people have nothing good to say about the station or the employees if people quit listening then a new tower is kind of a mute point dont you think
What are you saying to them? It must be pretty bad if they are cussing you. |

I like to old way too, a few years back they started with Chirstmas music and ran it from T-giving until Christmas. That was grrrrate.

I have posted my email address here several times and if anyone has any problems with any of our employees and have suggestions regarding our Stations to please send it to me. I have never received any comments or suggestions. I am amazed that they only time I hear anything about the stations is on this forum. I will post my email again and I would like to hear from everyone in that community personally and not on the forum. We will not tolerate any employee of this company speaking to a member of this community in a disrespectful manner. If you will tell me who it was it will be addressed. The reason why we have had personal changes is for that very reason. My email address is wtkyradio@aol.com, and our web site is www.kixcountryky.com .
