Kevin Spears was named interim superintendent of the Indian Valley Local School District by a unanimous vote of the Board of Education Monday night.
Spears, superintendent of the Tuscarawas-Carroll-Harrison Educational Service Center at New Philadelphia, replaces Randy Cadle, who was suspended by the board during a meeting Thursday.
In a press release issued Friday, the board stated it is reviewing the contracted status of Cadle after a number of concerns were brought to its attention.
Cadle was relieved of all duties, according to the release. His name no longer appears on Indian Valley letterhead, and there was no name next to the position of superintendent on the board’s agenda for Monday’s session.
“Mr. Cadle was suspended for an indefinite period of time with pay, and there is pending litigation,” said Spears, adding that Indian Valley Board of Education legal representatives are involved in the matter. He said he was unsure of the legal representation of Cadle.
“This is a service we provide at no cost to the school,” he said of his appointment.“I hope to make this transition as smooth as possible and continue the everyday operations of the school as they were before.”
Spears explained that in years past, the county superintendent would serve a district when the need arose. That responsibility now goes with Spears’ position at ESC.
Board President Francis Picchetti declined to comment on the situation surrounding Cadle’s suspension because of the pending litigation. During the meeting, Picchetti thanked board members for their cooperation during the last couple of weeks, described as “difficult weeks.”
The meeting was attended by school administrative personnel and about 20 visitors, none of whom addressed the board.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Aquarius

Someone is being bombastic and overbearing, and you don't like it. You aren't prepared to take their behavior lying down, but standing up to them is likely to result in a rip-roaring row. Well, it seems that the row is almost inevitable, and perhaps that's just as well because it won't do you any good to swallow your anger or tolerate this person's boorishness for much longer.
