50% of all police fatalities that occurr in the line of duty are due to auto accidents. Slow down out there!!

I think in this case, the trooper had severe head injuries not unlike Dale Earnhardt's accident.I think most of the new police cars Ford Crown Vic's have sufficent padding for side impact.I think without the autopsy report will finally put to rest the speculation.3 bodies need to know the info,ISP,Coroner, and his family.I still say the young troop died the same way Dale Earnhardt died, driving fast, and doing the thing he loved

The in car cameras should be made to record any time lights an/or sirens are on. I assume this is not the case now. If this were done, there would be no question what happened in cases like this.

To the family of this trooper...God Bless you and may your pain ease with time. To the trooper, rest in peace and thank you for your service to your fellow man/woman.

If they start a pursuit don't they have to call that in?

Les,
With all of the equipment in a police car today, light & siren controls, radios and an in car computer, it would be very difficult to slide over on the seat because you would have to climb over all of the equipment.
God's blessings to this brave trooper and his family. We appreciate your service.

I am sorry for this young man and his family. He was only trying to do the job that he was ordered to do. However, isn't it time our state police worry about something more than traffic violations? If this young man would have been out tracking down the killers, rapist, and real criminals that are walking our streets, I believe his loss would mean more to the people. I am sick and tired of driving outside of my home county and having to worry about some local or state cop writing me some bogus traffic ticket.

Is a traffic ticket worth your life? I don't think so. ISP, settle down out there and remember a ticket is not that important. This is coming from a LEO who has dealt with ISP and sorry to say most of these guys are Triple A with a badge. These guys are engrained with issuing traffic tickets at all costs. Please be careful.
My thoughts go out to this young man's family and friends.

Using Les's logic, if you are in a falling elevator, just jump up in the air right before it hits, and you will be ok.
Steve-cameras ARE activated anytime the lights/siren are on, most State Police cars don't have cameras due to the roughly $2,500 cost per car May God Bless this Trooper and his family

However, a lot of state police cars do not have them due to the cost of them.

Truth wrote: If they start a pursuit don't they have to call that in? An officer don't call in the the pursuit until he has already turned on his emergency lights and siren and sees that the car will not stop. On a traffic stop, they are usually not called in until the car pulls over.

this is a terrible thing to happen to anyone. i find it ironic that if events happened as the story indicates, that yet another cop lost his life on traffic patrol. maybe the risks of high speed pursuit for a speeding ticket are not worth it? same with having to sit with the pulled over car on the side of the road-- its too dangerous. how about lets go after the seriously reckless drivers only? seems like that would be safer for everyone....

God Bless the family, and may he be welcomed into Heaven with open arms.
On my way to work this morning, traveling 65mph, I was passed by a county patrol car. He was traveling no less than 80 mph, no lights or siren, just cruising along, out of his county. This happens everyday. A lot of these officers abuse the speeding laws, because they can. Yet if I drive 68+ mph I get a $150 ticket.
I would like to have a phone number I can call and report these kind of things.

otis from mayberry wrote: something must be up with the investigation,if he had been in pursuit he would have called it in and requested more help, sounds like a wall of blue cover up,the department doesnt want to admit to something as embarassing as a trooper drinking and driving if that is the case, the public will probably never know.sorry for the families involved. You attempt to stop and if the violator doesn't stop then it is called in either as a pursuit or that the violator won't stop. He probably was speeding to catch up to the car and crashed. Your assertion that he was intoxicated is cow poop. BTW I agree with another writer that ISP is fixated on writing traffic tickets and that is their priority. The ISP academy spends weeks on traffic laws and that is what they do more than anything else LE related.

For those of you who are jumping on The Grand Wizards for asking the question, Was he drunk? You need to remember this is a forum, designed for people to ask questions, and offer thier opinions. It is an unfortunate think, but the question must be asked.
