The State Board of Education took its first public look last week at a drafted rule and resolution that would forbid public schools - citing nondiscrimination laws - from using Native American mascots and imagery.
This is rediculous. As long as renderings in logo and names used are in good taste and used respectfully they can only serve to promote rememberance that there are Native Americans, and that they well deserve a strong place in our nation's history, lest white people forget how rudely they have shown thier disrespect in the past for a people that were and are the rightful residents of these United States.
Are we next to ban names like Scappoose and Tillamook to sooth feelings of guilt in those who deserve never to forget?
