I work with Dr.Soesbe and his wife. I am sick about this. He was probably the nicest man you would ever want to meet. I miss you! My prayers for his wife will continue.

The particular curve (at milemarker 24 1/2) has claimed the lives of 5 bikers in the past 9 years and many more have been injured.

The posted speed limit is 35 mph, but most take it much faster. What makes it particularly dangerous is that it is a decreasing radius corner. It gets tighter as you ride into it. I am sure most of the fatalities hit their brakes in the middle of the turn, lost control, hit the gravel on the outside of the corner and went down.

I wish all the bikers riding to Madrid from the south would slow down on this corner and be safe. For those going back to Albuquerque from Madrid....don't drink and ride!!

I drive back and forth to Cedar Crest at least two if not three times a week. I can guarantee you that most of these guys do not drive too fast. On the other hand, most of them don't wear helmets either.

Dont be an a.s.s and bring helmets into this..If you had read the article,he WAS wearing a helmet!!!More than not a helmet does nothing but impare your vision and hearing.Try wearing one driving your car around and see how well that goes.If you want to wear a helmet wear one.Dont push it on anyone else though..
My prayers to the family.

Glen & Jean Soesbe both went by their middle names, Terry & Suzette. Terry Soesbe was my father, and he was the most wise, kind & good-hearted man I've ever known. We will miss him dearly.

W T F is your problem? I know this guy was wearing a helmet. Would it help you if I had said, most of these guys don't wear helmets, unlike the one that died? I wasn't dogging anyone for not wearing a helmet, just making a simple statement. Go back to bed, grouch.

My thoughts and prayers to the family. I am a Harley owner and I always read up on accidents to see if there's anything I can learn from the accident. I really appreciate Lukehappy's comments. Thank you.

Don't push safety on anyone? Why do we have seatbelt laws? For that matter why bother wearing leather and using turn signals. Take some responsibility for yourself.

It's a tragedy that this gentleman and his wife were hurt, but isn't that more of an argument to drive safely and use the available safety equipment? Godspeed.

Calm down. Hopefully you don't have daily confrontations like this. Nowhere did that poster say that he was not wearing a helmet and nowhere did that poster push wearing a helmet on anyone else. Stop reading things that aren't there and then check into getting some help for your obvious anger problem.

Yo In Santa Fe: When was the last time you heard a motorcycle crash survivor say "Thank God I wasn't wearing a helmet"....the good Doctor knew to take precautions, unfortunately it came off. Not saying that was the determining factor in this case...my condolences to his wife and family.

My sincere condolences to the family. I've ridden a motorcycle for forty years. I still ride. I've ridden this road many times. This particular curve is very dangerous as the radius decreases. There is a white cross in memory of another rider just south of this accident scene. I was riding my bike yesterday and passed the accident scene shortly after the accident. I am so sorry for your loss.

If they drove the speed limit on this corner, they would not go down. The ONLY reason for the many fatalities and injuries on this particular corner is excess speed. The rider may think they are ok entering the corner, but they find they've made an error in judgment in the middle of it. I know, I've been on scene for almost everyone of these accidents during the past 10 years.
My message to all bikers reading these comments....PLEASE SLOW DOWN AT THIS CURVE.

1. Friends don't let friends ride Harleys...they are for POSERS!
2. A helmet DOES NOT COME OFF...he didn't buckle it down, rookie mistake regardless of how many years on a bike.

I've been riding and racing bikes for over 35 years and have taken down many a bike at the track, never has a helmet come off my head. Intelligence sometimes doesn't translate into every aspect of a person's being...always sad to see a fellow rider go down...

Now, to the MORON that said something about a helmet getting in his way...I've taken that same corner at 3X the speed limit and my helmet has never been in my way...I've had my helmet on at close to 190 mph and it's never been in my way...as a matter of fact, the only time that a helmet has been in my way is when my head has hit the ground...food for thought.

It hurts to see so much anger in the above posts. I was there when this accident happened. And my husband (an emt) stopped to see how we could help. My husband jumped the railing to help Mrs Suzzette. Me (and my eight year old daughter who was riding with me) asked witnesses if I could be of any help even if just to pray and console. please save your anger for a different topic. it only hurts those who were there.

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Taurus

Everything seems to be getting under your skin at the moment, but this is no excuse to lose your temper, and you know it. Better by far to be discreet and plough on steadily, without looking to the left or right. If you keep your feet on the ground and don't get discouraged, there are definitely fair winds that will blow you along. It's just a question of finding the right balance between confidence and commonsense.
