Pup in the Park Festival May 9th at Memorial Park is a great family event, apparently not supported by the elected or appointed leadership of Elgin. My family participates with numerous volunteers to raise funds and awareness for the Elgin Humane Society and the very special animals and future family members up for adoption. I would like to ask where are all the citizens that lead this community and ask us to follow. Is this the example you set for your taxpayers and youth of this community? Where are you? I know you are out there I see your photos in the paper every week at events all over town. Oh could it be the only paper in town was not there so no photo opps hmmm. You know this is the real story of Elgin the child's smile as big as Texas when they find that special pet and companion to grow up with. Or even the young man confined to a wheel chair who traveled 6 hours from west Texas to volunteer and earn credits to help him get a service dog. Or the craftsmen of Elgin with the handmade treasures. Well I guess those stories will never be covered or photographed. Too bad because they are the TRUE LEADERS of any couuminty. I watched this cities youth and they're families work tirelessly to get this off the ground and be a successful event. I even took the time out to go vote and offered a ride to anyone else to go and vote for the people who supposedly lead and care for this city. Well ladies and gentleman you have again not risen to the causes and needs of this city. Ever since I have moved here all I have heard is shop here, participate in Elgin well leaders of Elgin where have you led this taxpayer and registerd voter? What kind of example have you set for the youth and families of this community? I will definately remember your lack of interest in community events the next time you need my support. However to all the youth volunteers and families you are the leaders of this community and the future of this city and see the results of your actions are more than photo opportunities. Special thanks to all who participated vendors, artist, local businesses you all will be remembered. Just a note for the current Elgin leadership who did not give a nod to this event, over 100 digital photos were taken, the smiles the joy and the rewards and the heartfelt stories will be posted to the EHS website for the world to see---to bad you will not be in them ------YOU WERE NOT THERE-------Resident of Elgin, Registered voter, taxpayer and most important VOLUNTEER -BW

A true leader never looks back to see who is following, and if they happen to discover that no one is following. They don’t blame the people, they look at what they are doing to see why people aren’t following them.

Did you ever stop to think that your LEADERS could have been at other events? Perhaps with another orginization? A orginization that deals with youth!!!! Get off of your high horse and realize that the leaders that you speak of donate time that they could be spending with thier family or just sitting on the couch watching TV. They could be thanked for the job that they do....Instead they have to listen to thankless people like you. If you have a problem with your elected officials the give them a call and find out exactly what they were doing.

First of all learn to spell. and second I know alot of members (VOTERS) attend and participate in all the events in ELGIN including the shelter staff. Thsis event was on election day so where shoul they be but in the city... They marched (with animals) in Veterans Day parade, Christmas by the tracks, HogEye Festival,Western Days , and many other events. So I hardley consider anyone thankless for wanting the leaaders of Elgin to participate in Elgin events, so I concur with Resident of Elgin. So maybe! be aware of the facts befor you make inaccurate comments. Besides how would you know you are 1200 miles away or did you learn geography where you learned how to spell..........

Thank you for your support Active. WOW all I can say is WOW ha ha. Your lack of knowledge of the situation is mesmerizing. I know this is an open forum and appreciate the feedback, but please have some resemblance of knowledge on the situation prior to commenting. This was an Elgin Humane Society event in the city of Elgin and benefits the residents and it's Civic leaders who should have made an appearance in support. Like I said I took the time away from setting up the event to go vote for those elected officials and took other volunteers to go vote also. They represent us and should have made an appearance. As far as communicating this to them, I DID! And I will communicate it again at the next election by not voting for them just to prove my appreciation for the lack of presence. So again I appreciate your response and it shows that apathy exists across the country.

Why don’t you do your research? Most of your community leaders work full time jobs. Most of your community leaders have meetings several nights a week. Most of your community leaders are involved in a host of civic organizations. Most of your community leaders have families. Most of your community leaders attend various non-profit events during the year. Do the math. Get your facts straight. This allows very little time for a personal life. Do you know how much your elected officials get paid for their service? I can tell you it is very little. Here is a suggestion. If you want leaders to attend your event then invite them. Each member of a community plays a different role. Just because I did not attend your event does not mean I do not support your cause. For you to say that you are not going to vote for someone because they did not come to your event is very short sided. As I said before do your research. Call your representatives. I know for a fact that you have not contacted everyone that you are blasting with your rhetoric. In the past couple of weeks the Council has spent a number of hours working on improving our animal control ordinance. Changes have been made to improve the conditions of animals in our city. Where have you been? Learn how to spell???? Are you in third grade????

You don’t catch on very quick. Do you? I am not in Ohio. I am in Elgin Tx. My server is in Ohio. I am an elected official in Elgin Tx. For your information I did not attend Western Days. I do not see the Chamber of Commerce online bad mouthing anybody. Like I said before if you wanted officials to attend your event you should have invited them. I personally could not attend because I was attending another civic event. Quit running your mouth about people you don’t know. I will say it again. Call your leaders and talk to them. I know you have not called me.
