I am glad to see that she will do time for the crime instead of getting off scott free like so many criminals do.

My children's schools are great. What is so wrong? Why do the conservatives always want to tear down our schools? So that we can have private elite education just for the rich...like Mississippi and Lousiana......... I think the Grand Jury ought to investigate the attack on our schools!

Hey-Parent, you don't get it- Melanie was just commenting that you can actually work for Chico Unified and get away with stealing money from students. Caryn Hightower did when she stole money from both Marsh Jr. High and Chico Jr. Thousands of dollars were taken, and she got away scott free. Spent all that money at costco, taking vacations, etc. etc...

I laughed when you said, "Scott" free. It was Scott brown who should be behind bars! I know he likes bars but I'm talking jail for this one.

I am most impressed with the fact that so many of you that live in other parts of the country seem to know what happened in our little town! It has been a very unfortunate few years with our school district, so don't think that Brown and his staff got off. I believe he got run out of town (as he should have been) as did many of his cohorts who were so devious. As for the new superintendent, there has been quite a bit of a push lately to get her to resign. I am not sure what happened, but people aren't too happy. Maybe they didn't "get away with it" after all as someone above suggested.

I don't know what you're talking about, Chico Parent. Staley's contract was renewed. And most of the staff did get off. Feaster and Staley make more than 100K to continue doing harm to our community and children.

You are all off topic here. Miss J stole from a private employer, as well as her family business several years ago. I hope she has a nice time in the jail and they keep her there for the full 9/10 years.

Hi. I am a teacher in CUSD and was at a math workshop at CSU for a full week after school got out. There were teachers from many other districts there, and I can tell you that the CUSD teachers were embarrassed to say where we taught. I was aghast when I heard from other teachers what they know about some of the district office officials.

Without trying to "name names" we were the only ones who openly complained about how our district is run. Many expressed fear, many discussed some of the harassment tactics the superintendent and staff have used, many discussed working conditions that are terrible.

I know this was about the embezzler, but "Melanie's" comment to start the thread was humorous because of the truth to it.

I don't think Feaster was a factor in Brown's acts. As memory serves me, he wasn't the assistant superintendent then. Frankly, Feaster is too stupid to be devious. Stupid, but not devious. He used to be our school psych and we would just die when he was in a conference with us. Invariably, he would make a mistake, forget a paper, bring the wrong documents, have to leave early, or just say something that was off base. The next think we knew it he was in charge of all of special ed---Peter Principle. Our special ed situation got out of control, so they made him asst. supt. He's an idiot, but I don't think he would have the ability to even think about how to be a crook like the others. I'm not sure I want him removed because then he might have to come back to our school. Which is worse?!

Getting back to the original post, I do think that the embezzler should be put in jail, but I do see the analogy to CUSD with so many district office personnel getting away with some pretty bad things they did. I wonder sometimes if the board knew or not?

Anyway, Feaster is inept, but I don't think he's one of the criminals who should be removed. We're used to ineptness at our district office!

Makes you really want to become a teacher, doesn't it? I don't know what to tell you other than hang in there and speak the truth even if it costs you your career. Tell someone on the school board who you can trust.

I just read an article in the N&R about Joni Samples spending taxpayer money on her own personal business. It seems that embezzlement is rampant in our school system. I am concerned that it seems to be almost accepted and no one is held accountable. If Scott Brown was fired for his antics, then that's great, but it appears that many of you are saying that others in the district office were also stealing or committing crimes. Whose responsibility is it to hold them accountable? Is it the school board, the public, the police? I really don't care if Ms. Staley is our superintendent or not. If she participated in illegal activities, then she should be removed. Something must be terribly wrong for our schools to be so poor.

I think the Samples issue was different. She was using funds to pay for her boyfriend to go on trips with her.

It's the School Board's responsibility. They won't do anything about Staley and Einhorn because they were also involved. Notice that Anderson still won't apologize or admit that any mistakes were made. Our Board is very different in this town; they seem to think that they are friends with the District administrators instead of demanding accountability. There are too many secret sessions, the Board and Superintendent are advised by the same attorney (Einhorn), and there are too many personal affiliations. Most administrators fear the school board, but not in this town. It's really sad and won't get any better until they're all gone.
