New Hires at Texarkana College

New staff will cost $470 000 annually

By Marie Martin Texarkana Gazette

The figures are in. Texarkana College will add more than $470,000 annually to its staff salaries, according to records.

Four of the six new hires introduce a new level of administration between the president and the deans. The vice president of learning, vice president for administration and finance and director of human resources are brand new positions.

The director of institutional effectiveness and research is a portion of the job former director of admissions Van Miller did. The other portion of Miller’s job was given to Tom Elder, who became the dean of admissions in August 2008.

Three of the new hires are from out of the state.
The director of institutional advancement & public relations—who replaced Kirk Lohse who resigned in 2008—and the director of human resources started on Sept. 1.

I believe the fees are going up not tuition.
So the money will be used for technology and improvements. Which are over due. It is sad that TISD has betters building and technology than a college.

They spend so much on administration that they neglect the rest of the school. They should make the school more energy efficient and then they could start saving money.

They only care about stuffing their overly stuffed pockets. Notice when they get more money over 70% goes to administration costs, wonder where that goes from there.

I think the Gazette misadded on the salaries. I come up with $471,000. That is nearly half a million that they could have put onto buildings, and resources..

Don't guess I know enough about what staff colleges need to have an opinion.
