Analysis: La. Lawmaker targets speed traps

“If we're trying to attract commerce to Louisiana, and tie our state together, the north with the south, then we don't want to be stopping people at every town, handing out speeding tickets”

Every part of Louisiana has its notorious speed-trap town. Baskin, Golden Meadow, Livonia, Georgetown and other burgs have the reputation, at least, of handing out speeding tickets purely to make money. via WWL-AM New Orleans

One of those towns, Woodworth, raised the speed limit through town to 55. They issued more citations annually since they raised the speed limit. You're right, just obey the posted speed limit and there won't be a problem.

I bet there were more wrecks since they raised the speed limit up to 55. Here it is small towns trying to turn their towns in to interstates. It just can't happen.

Well, Woodworth tried to extend its city limits to include part of I-49. They failed. I have a problem that they are able to patrol a road that runs through a national forest. But, not to be outdone, the state forestry department has begun issuing berry picking licenses. That's right, if you want to pick black berries in a wildlife management area in La, you must purchase a berry picking license for $10. If you are caught picking berries without a license, it is a $50 fine.

Hey Georgetown. Visited your lovely city this weekend, coming home from a funeral. I looked up, saw a 45 mph sign, and 10 feet beyond it, a Georgetown cop. He must have been every bit of 19. His car was nicer than any police car in Houston. I wonder where all of that money comes from. He clocked me at 57. WOW!!! What a speed demon I am. You little red neck backwoods jerks. Get a real job, and get a real town.
